FT. LAUDERDALE, FLORIDA (PRWEB) January 9, 2004 --The World Maritime University (WMU), an agency of the United Nations International Maritime Organization (IMO), has appointed Kim E. Petersen, President of SeaSecure LLC, as a Visiting Professor. SeaSecure LLC is a global leader in maritime security and counter-terrorism consulting. Petersen will help the WMU to develop a maritime security curriculum for the graduate program at the Malmų, Sweden-based university.

We first began to support the World Maritime University in 2001 and we are honored to continue our affiliation with the leading maritime university in the world," said Petersen. I look forward to developing a premier seaport and ship security and antiterrorism program for the WMU graduate program here in Sweden."

Petersen will work from his Ft. Lauderdale, Florida offices and conduct lectures at the university each August. Maritime security training, including the protection of ships and ports from terrorism, is now required of ship and port operators due to the passage of the International Ship and Port Facility and Security (ISPS) Code. The ISPS Code was adopted by the UNs IMO to address maritime security at all international ports and the security of ships engaged in international commerce. The ISPS Code has set strict standards for port and ship operators that must be achieved by 1 July 2004.
