City Canyons, an independent record label without borders, has added to its international clout with the addition of the UK group, ANEMO, featuring Hazelle Woodhurst

City Canyons Records has announced the signing today of the UK band ANEMO featuring diva Hazelle Woodhurst, to a multi-album contract. Styling itself as a record label without borders, City Canyons has already signed international artists David Steele, also from the UK, and Valerian from Finland whose albums “Underneath the Ice” and “Intimations of Sorrow” respectively will be released on November 5..

Trebor Lloyd, a principal of the independent label based in downtown Manhattan, said that ANEMO is exactly the kind of band that fits into the City Canyon’s roster. “ANEMO is bracingly fresh, has its own definitive sound and features knock-out vocals, courtesy of Ms. Woodhurst. That sound and those vocals wrap around strong edgy lyrics and songwriting from the team of Woodhurst and Kingsley Sage. Talent like ANEMO is helping City Canyons achieve that ‘new sound in town,’ distinct, intelligent but with wide appeal to discriminating audiences everywhere.”

According to Lloyd, City Canyon’s latest international deal largely came about through discovery of ANEMO on the highly respected international music network,

“ is an excellent forum for independent labels, artists and songwriters who really want to explore the international market. It keeps City Canyons in touch with what’s really happening on the global scene.

City Canyons plans to release ANEMO’s album “Slow Burn” internationally in early 2005. It’s releases of its other international artists David Steele and Valerian are planned for November 2, 2004.

"ANEMO is extremely pleased with the multi-album deal just signed with City Canyons and looks forward to the release of their first album and, and along with City Canyons' other European artists David Steele and Valerian, to bringing some exciting and fresh-sounding European rock/beats crossover sounds to the United States, “said ANEMO band member and creative force, Kingsley Sage.

Sage also credits for its part in the City Canyons agreement. “This deal shows the continued interest in British music in the US and the ability of to link artists with dynamic independent labels who are actively looking to work with new artists worldwide.”

ANEMO is looking forward to working with its new label mates. “We certainly hope to hook up in some fashion sooner rather than later with David Steele and Valerian. We are also very exited about our label mates in the U.S. including Jen Elliott and Bluestruck, Sara Wendt and Ripe and look forward to the likelihood of joining some or all of them on-stage in the U.S. in 2005.”
