Congresswoman Maxine Waters Brings In New Ballet Company

The Inaugural Gala of the Los Angeles Modern and Ballet Company at the El Portal Theatre will Exemplify the Best in Classical Ballet, Modern and Jazz Dance

Los Angeles, CA (PRWEB) October 4, 2004 -- On Thursday October 7, 2004 Congresswoman Waters and the Black Womens Forum will host the opening night gala for Lambcos Inaugural Season at the El Portal Theatre, located at 5269 Lankershim Blvd. in North Hollywood.

Lambco will launch the Season with an Evening of Poetry in Motion. The program will feature 4 short works that include LA landmark work, Endangered Species," choreographed by Lambcos Resident Choreographer Robert Gilliam. Out of the 3 world premiers on the program will be Omhmar Griffins Love Songs" with music by Burt Bacharach performed by Ron Isley.

Lambco is led by a young fearless talent from New York. Although only 24 years old, Omhmar Griffins resume includes companies such as American Ballet Theater, The Washington Ballet, Oakland Ballet, Lula Washington Dance Theater, LA Opera and the Metropolitan Opera. In addition to his film and concert dance credits he has 3 Broadway Shows under his belt. He has also received a BA from Ohio State University.

Lambcos Associate Director is an alumnus of Arthur Mitchells Dance Theater of Harlem. Mpambo Wina, born in Zambia, grew up and began her dance training in Los Angeles. Upon leaving Dance Theater of Harlem, she spent 12 years in Munich Germany where she danced for various companies and acted as Ballet Pedagogue at the Iwanson Academy. She worked with the now renowned Ballet Theater Afrikan, the first multi racial classical ballet company in South Africa based in Johannesburg.

The Fall Season will run through Sunday, October 10, 2004. Performance times for Poetry in Motion are as follows; Thursday October 7, 8:00pm, Saturday October 9, 8:00pm, Sunday October 10, 4:00pm.
