Air2Access today announced three new contracts to offer wireless Internet access hotspots to the marine industry in the Great Lakes region.

Air2Access today announced three new contracts to offer wireless Internet access to the marine industry in the Great Lakes region. For the first time, Northwest Marine and Yacht Club (Charlevoix, MI), Southport Marina (Kenosha, WI), and Waukegan Harbor (Waukegan, IL) will provide wireless access for laptops and handheld devices for boaters to stay connected with friends, family, world events, and even work from their boats or anywhere throughout the marina.

“We are excited about announcing three new contracts and expanding our network across the Great Lakes,” said William Shipley, President and CEO of Air2Access. “Customer focused marinas understand that boaters see wireless Internet access as an expected amenity, and are quickly adding Hotspots as a differentiated, value-added service for boaters. Air2Access is committed to being the leading provider of fast, reliable wireless Internet access to marinas, harbors and yacht clubs in the Great Lakes region.”

As part of the contracts, Air2Access will provide the installation of Wi-Fi technology including the maintenance and ongoing performance of the system at no cost to the marina.

Marinas also receive revenue and profit sharing, incremental revenues from additional concession and merchandise sales, and benefits from joint marketing and advertising efforts. In addition, Air2Access can help improve marina operations by deploying applications that facilitate interaction with boaters and staff such as; transient check-in/out, and ship store inventory tracking.

“The Waukegan Port District strives to provide our boaters and transient guests with new and innovative services,” said William Kohn, Harbor Master in Waukegan, IL. “Wi-Fi access will enable our clients to have the ultimate flexibility to work, surf the Internet, and stay connected with friends and family, while enjoying the great outdoors they love.”

Through the marina’s hotspot, boaters enjoy improved communications with the marina such as notice of upcoming events, discounts with local merchants, notice of fishing hotspots and the latest weather reports and small craft advisories. Additional Air2Access services include improved security via remote boat monitoring and surveillance and nationwide roaming.

“Air2Access, with our expertise in Wi-Fi technology and the marine industry, is creating a roaming network of marinas throughout the Great Lakes that will enable boaters to sign on at any of Air2Access Hotspots, or at thousands of locations nationwide that are supported by Airpath Alliance Providers,” added Shipley. “Our exclusive focus on the marine industry enables us to better understand and deliver technically sound solutions to marinas and to the clients they serve.”
