Raleigh, NC (PRWEB) October 7, 2004
When hurricanes strike, people arenÂt the only victims. Thousands of pets are affected and many are left behind during evacuations, others end up in shelters, putting a strain on local resources and volunteers. As parts of the United States work to recover, the American Kennel Club Companion Animal Recovery program continues to provide assistance to all varieties of companion animals affected by the recent series of storms. Through its Canine Support and Relief Fund and working with The Florida Association of Kennel Clubs (FAKC), animal shelters, pet rescue groups and several companies, AKC Companion Animal Recovery has provided hundreds of microchips, scanners, pet carriers, food and other supplies to help rescue workers handle the large number of pets that require care.
Cherrybrook, Inc., provided crates, space blankets, ex-pens, collars, leashes and fencing at a special AKC rate. Wayne Ferguson, CEO of Cherrybrook, Inc. generously donated his time and effort to provide much-needed supplies. Additional donations were made available by Hartz Mountain Corporation, The Iams Company and Purina.
Due to the unusually large number of hurricanes that have affected the United States in the last eight weeks, the resources of the AKC-CAR Canine Support and Relief Fund have been drastically depleted and the need for companion animal relief is still critical.
Tax-deductible donations to the AKC Companion Animal Recovery Canine Support and Relief Fund may be sent to:
AKC-CAR Canine Support and Relief Fund
