Treasured Colorado Artist Inks Deal With Red Hat Society

Jane & June Publishing Partners With Growing Baby Boomer Organization to Develop "Society Chronicles" Artwork.

NIWOT, CO (PRWEB) October 7, 2004

Jane & June Publishing, LLC, is proud to announce it has reached a two year agreement with the Red Hat Society to develop the “Society Chronicles,” a line of whimsical watercolors created by Niwot artist Jane Langdon. The paintings, which depict humorous scenes common to Red Hat chapter members will be released to official RHS vendors for use in categories such as accessories and paper goods, and will be the founding pieces in the RHS art library. Jane and June Publishing maintained the exclusive rights to sell limited editions prints of the “Society Chronicles,” which can be purchased online at janeandjune.com.

Jane & June was founded in 2004 by Niwot artist Jane Langdon and Niwot ad agency owner Charles Bell of Tool Studios. Jane, a recent RHS inductee, came to Tool Studios with the idea of creating a line of Red Hat-inspired merchandise that would exceed the selection of product currently on the market. Tool was brought on board to package and sell the concept. The plan culminated with a sales presentation sent to the RHS that included a Jane & June storybook and framed watercolor. Sabrina Contreras, vice president of merchandise and product development, took notice. Bell, Langdon, and Langdon’s husband, Brad Langdon, flew to California to meet with Contreras, Sue Ellen Cooper – RHS founder, and other RHS executives. From this meeting, an agreement was finalized.

The Red Hat Society, based in Fullerton, California, is an emerging group of baby boomer women who’ve pledged to live life with verve, humor, élan and an “I don’t give a hoot” attitude. Sue Ellen Cooper unknowingly founded the organization after giving a copy of the poem “Warning” by Jenny Joseph with a red hat to a girlfriend as a gift. The poem starts, “When I am an old woman, I shall wear purple / With a red had which doesn’t go and doesn’t suit me…” The tradition continued from friend to friend, and the RHS was born. Sue Ellen Cooper also recently penned the #1 New York Times bestseller, “The Red Hat Society: Fun and Friendship After Fifty.”

Red Hatters are everywhere—wearing their signature clashing red hats and purple clothes, visiting tearooms and restaurants around the globe. At present, there are over 28,000 chapters worldwide, with 800,000 plus members, and an estimated 350 new chapters registering each week. This should come as no surprise considering that the baby boomer generation numbers 74 million and growing. Every eight seconds another person turns 50, making them the fastest-growing segment of the population.
