FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

Austin, TX (PRWEB) October 9, 2004 -- Award-winning investigative reporter Greg Palast will appear live and in person to present his new film, BUSH FAMILY FORTUNES: The Best Democracy Money Can Buy on Tuesday, October 12th, 2004 at 7:00 P.M. at the Paramount Theatre, 713 Congress Avenue, Austin, Texas. After an introduction by Mr. Palast, the screening will be followed by a Question and Answer session.

This 70-minute documentary investigates George W. Bush's climb to power and the circumstances surrounding his election as President of the United States, including his family connections to the Saudi government and the 2000 Florida election results. Currently reporting for BBC Television, The Guardian of London and The London Observer, Palast's extraordinary reports have been front-page news in Europe, yet blocked out of mainstream media in the United States.

"As an exiled ex-pat writer for the UK's Guardian and Observer newspapers, Palast has dug deep
into stories that American armchair journalists barely scratch at. While every hack from Tom
Brokaw to David Broder were discussing chads and vote counts, Palast had already proven
with written documentation and statistical analysis how Bush stole election in Florida long before
a single vote was cast." - Bully Magazine

"His stories about Bush's election theft, about intelligence agency cover-ups, and globalization - backed up with smoking gun documents, inside sources and on-the-record interviews - will shock even the most informed readers."
- Guerrilla News Network in naming Palast "Reporter of the Year"

"Greg Palast is investigative journalism at its best. No one has exposed more truth about the Bush Cartel and lived to tell the story." - Baltimore Chronicle

"Heres how your President was elected: In the year leading up to the Presidential election, Katherine Harris and Jeb Bush removed tens of thousands of citizens from the voter rolls. Harris claimed they were felons but almost none were though 54% were guilty of being African-American...."
- The Best Democracy Money Can Buy by Greg Palast

Before taking up the pen for The Observer and Guardian newspapers, Los Angeles-born Palast traveled the globe as an expert investigator of corporate fraud and racketeering. For the Chugach Natives of Alaska, he unearthed the doctored safety records that proved the Exxon Valdez disaster was an inevitability, not an accident. In Chicago, he bargained contracts for the United Steelworkers Union in Chicago and in Peru he helped found a consumer rights organization. Years ago, he guided the formation of an alliance linking Enron workers in Brazil and India. In 1988, Palast directed the governments investigation of a US nuclear plant builder in which the jury awarded the largest racketeering penalty in US history.

Greg Palast's writings have appeared in The Washington Post, Harper's, and The Nation. He's been a guest on Politically Incorrect and C-Span's Washington Journal and his investigative reports can currently be seen on BBC Television's Newsnight and in the U.S. on BBC World. Winner of Salon.com's 2001 "Politics Story of the Year," Greg Palast is a legend among his colleagues and his devoted readership worldwide.
