New York, NY (PRWEB) October 12, 2004 -- The executive committee for the 31st Annual VEITHsymposium announced today that the virtual press suite located at www.VEITHpress.org is now open to the media for registration. Journalists, medical writers and reporters can review a select choice of important and current vascular surgery topics/abstracts, as well as information regarding access to interviews, press guidelines and registration.
VEITHsymposium will be held November 18-21, 2004 at the Sheraton New York Hotel & Towers (New York, NY).
The conference draws over 1,500 international thought leaders in the field of vascular surgery. Over 150 rapid-fire abstract presentations from the worlds most renowned vascular surgeons will be offered in twenty-seven sessions throughout the 4-day event that will highlight important updates and controversies, with emphasis on the latest significant advances, changing concepts in diagnosis and management, and new techniques, agents and diagnostic modalities. Video case presentations are interspersed throughout the 4-day program.
Controversies that will be explored at this years conference include: aortic aneurysm therapies, progress in the treatment of thoracic and thoracoabdominal aneurysms, management of aneurysms and arterial ischemia in children, new developments in drug therapies to treat vascular disease, the efficacy of new techniques for the treatment of varicose veins, the present and future of carotid stenting vs. carotid endarterectomy, intermittent pneumatic calf and foot compression therapy, gene therapy in the treatment of cardiovascular disease, the pros and cons of drug-eluting stents in the treatment of non-coronary vascular disease, a combined vascular surgery and interventional radiology program, the value of statins in lipid management to prevent arteriosclerosis, and more.
In addition, at this years VEITHsymposium, an issue of historical interest and clinical importance is the fight over specialty status for vascular surgery. The unique and specialized skills and competencies required for vascular disease management and intervention have evolved rapidly over the past decade and call for a separate specialty. However, this evolutionary process is strongly opposed" by The American Board of Surgery.
