Contemporary fine art photographer David Stuart UllmanÂs newest collection of color conceptual photography tackles democracy as his latest theme. Much as this country wrestles with its future during this election year, DavidÂs unique Âphotographic ballads feature twisting and dancing collages of boldly blended reality that reflect the drama of life. The cornerstone of DavidÂs newest work is ÂMoney, Politics and Religion 2004, a glossy display of familiar American icons such as the Statue of Liberty and statue of Abraham Lincoln blurred by an overlay of the American dollar in a 32" x 47" print. His portfolio can be viewed at http://www.DSUllmanGallery.com .
David Stuart Ullman is a self-taught photographer with over 10 years behind the camera. He has traveled to major cities throughout the nation to capture the face and mood of America on camera. While David calls himself an Âeveryday Joe, he approaches his photographic art with passion and compassion toward ordinary people. ÂI look for the mystery and beauty of the ordinary person on the street, declares David. His pictures often include candids of scenes in the public eye in a quest to unleash the extraordinary. David elaborates about the process by which he creates each original photographic ballad Âas painting with my camera. Many hours are devoted to compositing and balancing carefully selected elements to draw viewers into each piece. The photographer adds that his works highlight the choreography between light and subject and at the same time provoke the viewer into thinking about the bigger picture of life.
The feeling that politicians need to turn away from big business interests and return to serving ordinary people is what originally inspired DavidÂs ÂMoney, Politics and Religion 2004 piece. ÂRegardless of how desperate our lives seem at times, says David, Âwe all can still dream, aspire, hope, and believe that God does smile upon all his children regardless of circumstance. In another work, titled ÂStars and Stripes Remembered, the statue of a vigilant sailor guards a setting sun. Despite the darkening clouds that gather around the soldier, the American flag shines through the uncertainty. ÂMy goal is really to get people participating in this wonderful country of ours, enthuses the photographer, Âone vote does make a difference.Â
