The law firm of Brayton Purcell is proud to be a sponsor of the first international conference on mesothelioma presented by the Mesothelioma Applied Research Foundation (MARF). Caused by asbestos exposure, mesothelioma is an aggressive cancer that first attacks the membranes lining the chest, lungs, or stomach. At present, the disease is incurable, although various treatments may prolong life and decrease pain.

The event includes workshops geared towards mesothelioma patients and their families as well as meetings for medical professionals. Patients may attend both the scientific presentations and the workshops, or choose to participate in the workshops alone. Workshop topics include healing, loss of a loved one, emotional recovery, caring for the caregiver, and anger management. Families may also attend a moving "ceremony of remembrance of loved ones lost to mesothelioma." Although the focus of the program deals with mesothelioma, many of the workshops would be equally applicable to anyone dealing with a debilitating asbestos-related disease.

The conference will be held at the MGM Grand Hotel in Las Vegas on October 14-16, 2004, If you would like more information, contact MARF at 805-560-8942 or visit the group’s web site at http://www.marf.org.
