Kerrys Debate Phrase "Weapons of Mass Deception" is the title of a New Documentary about Iraq War

New York, NY (PRWEB) October 10, 2004 -- In his second debate with George Bush, Presidential Candidate John Kerry opened with, "The president didn't find weapons of mass destruction in Iraq, so he's really turned his campaign into a weapon of mass deception,"

"It's a phrase whose time has come," says filmmaker Danny Schechter, Producer of the feature length documentary WMD" (Weapons of Mass Deception) on the media coverage of the war in Iraq. Schechter has just inked a theatrical distribution deal with Cinema Libre Studio, the California Company that distributed OUTFOXED" in movie houses nationwide. Schechter continues, "Americans hate to be lied to by politicians but they are even more disgusted when the media they rely on is also deceptive"

WMD" is previewing this month at film festivals in Denver, Austin and The Hamptons on Long Island. It will open in selected theaters at the end of the month in cities across the country.

Advance reviews are comparing WMD" to Michael Moore's Fahrenheit 911." "It is more cohesive and devastating that Fahrenheit 911" opined the Boston Phoenix. Writing in the new issue of Vanity Fair media writer Michael Wolff says Schechter, "Out Michael Moores Michael Moore" and brands the film a "comic masterpiece."

Wolff writes, "WMD shows vividly the media pretense, all dead certainty and farcical pomposity, against the now evident confection and put-up job and balderdash and mess of sentiment and bromides and unexamined blah-blah which constituted almost everybody's tale of the war."

"The news business, in Schechter's view, has its truest equivalent in the intelligence community. The news business, like the spying business is a jury-rigged monolith which exists in its current form for no particular logical of functional reason other than its been buffeted by financial and political forces and the needs of people and organizations more powerful than it."

Danny Schechter,"the News Dissector," is a veteran journalist and critic edits Globalvision's Mediachannel.org, the world's largest on-line media issues network. His latest book, Embedded" Weapons of Mass Deception (Prometheus Books) details the argument made in his new 98 minute independent film. Schechter is a four time Emmy-award winner and a former network producer with ABC News and CNN. WMD" is his 15th film.
