Product now available to more than 2.2 million Cox High Speed Internet subscribers; includes advanced spyware protection and disinfection, pop-up blocking, plus automated updating capability.

October 12th, 2004. Authentium announced today that Cox Communications has launched an integrated security suite based on the Authentium ESP component technologies that will reduce pop-up ads and spyware invasions for its Cox High Speed Internet residential customers who download the software enhancement. The security suite includes Anti-Spyware and Pop-up Blocker software and will be provided to customers free of additional charge.

“Our customers are looking for a solution to the ever-increasing volume of pop-up ads and spyware on their computers,” said Mark Bell, Manager of Product Development. “Earlier this month, we surprised our customers with speed increases and today we are adding yet another new feature – both free of additional charge. These endeavors are a reflection of our ongoing commitment to providing the best value in Internet service available in our markets.”

Spyware invasions can create unwanted menu bars, altered home pages, unauthorized re-directs to spoofed web pages, and many other nuisances for Internet users, including reduced PC performance, and theft of personal data that can lead to identity theft. With the new Anti-Spyware software from Authentium, customers can prevent damage to their PCs and files, eliminate damage from existing spyware and cookies, block specific programs, and protect user settings.

Pop-up ads also interfere with the online customer experience. More importantly, however, pop-up applications are known to be a primary vehicle for delivering spyware programs. With the new Pop-up Blocker software, customers can block unsolicited ads, identify when ads are blocked through an audio alert, see the content they choose to see and ignore the sites they don’t.

The spyware protection and pop-up filtering modules chosen by Cox Communications are key components of the Authentium Enhanced Security Platform, a multi-platform security suite that includes “best of breed” protection against more than 200,000 identified threats. In addition to Cox, Authentium supplies Authentium ESP components to Philadelphia-based Comcast Online.

“We are extremely pleased to be offering these advanced security tools in partnership with Cox Communications,” stated John Sharp, Authentium’s Chairman and CEO. “As a consumer and Internet user, I know how frustrating pop-ups and spyware can be. This set of tools allows customers to enjoy all of the advantages of a high speed connection to the World Wide Web, and filter out the unnecessary distractions. I think Cox High Speed Internet subscribers are really going to enjoy this service.”

“We are committed to empowering our broadband customers with the information, tools and features they need to maximize their enjoyment of our services and to protect themselves from threats. This is just one more way that we are making Cox High Speed Internet an unparalleled value in the marketplace,” said Bell.
