Solution Combines Proven Technology with a Remotely Hosted Service Model to Deliver Cost-Effective, Actionable Intelligence to IT Departments

free network vulnerability assessment company, today launched IPxray GapVision™ – its new suite of remotely hosted security, monitoring and advisory services that identifies network security vulnerabilities from the hackers’ perspective. It leverages proven technology and a remotely hosted service model to deliver cost-effective, actionable intelligence to IT departments. IPxray GapVision examines an organization’s network, servers and websites; finds perimeter vulnerabilities and produces detailed reports that enable a business’s IT department to then fix the identified security holes.

Because IPxray GapVision is a remotely hosted solution, it provides an effective way for IT departments and network security consultants to quickly examine a network from the outside – looking in. IPxray has combined the best open-source scanning tools such as Nessus with powerful, proprietary scanning and monitoring tools to provide an unparalleled look at a corporate network – from the hacker’s point of view. This means that IT professionals can focus the majority of their energies and resources on securing their infrastructure investments. No longer will IT professionals be burdened with having to train on, purchase or maintain expensive hardware and software to provide network vulnerability assessments.

“The ability to effectively perform real-time scanning and monitoring provides an understanding of how our network looks to a hacker. Our freedom from having to invest in expensive software, systems and training is what made IPxray attractive to us,” Chris Muir, network architect at Evolution Benefits in Avon, Connecticut. “The detailed reports allow us to stay current in terms of our security barrier’s performance and to make intelligent adjustments as they are needed.”

“Our service has been beta-tested for many months now,” said Sholom Ellenberg, president and founder of IPxray, LLC. “Over that time, we have proven our technology by scanning thousands of hosts. This experience allows us to provide a comprehensive network vulnerability assessment solution. We are pleased to deliver network and IT administrators with the real-time, actionable intelligence that will help them effectively understand their network security issues.”

Addressing Market Needs: Hacker attacks and break-ins of corporate networks grow in number every month. Aberdeen Group estimates that Internet-based disruptions that are being incurred by businesses from security-related causes such as worms and other online-related attacks cost corporations an average of $2 million an incident. Aberdeen’s research also states that companies average one incident a year.

The key is to stop intruders before they get into a corporate network. IPxray GapVision addresses this problem by providing pain-free vulnerability assessments. Vulnerability assessment technology lets IT departments and security experts know what the network perimeter looks like from the “outside-in” – which is paramount to being able to secure it. IDC has projected the vulnerability assessment and risk management market to reach $1.6 billion by 2008.

IPxray GapVision Modules

• Security Scanner – The GapVision Security Scanner checks a given IP address or range for known exploits and holes. IPxray leverages advanced scanning technologies – including open-source hacker tools such as Nessus – and continues to keep these tools up-to-date with daily database refreshes. Security Scanner reports provide the administrator with actionable intelligence to eliminate all the red flags that would draw a hacker’s attention.

• Inventory Scanner – Quite often, new devices and services are introduced or removed from a network. The result can be unintended openings or closings of IP addresses and ports. The GapVision Inventory Scanner provides a full accounting of IP addresses and ports, allowing administrators to maintain accurate documentation.

• Firewall Rule Checker – Changes are often made to firewalls. They are usually made without any “outside-in” scrutiny to validate the proper operation of the firewall after the changes are completed. The GapVision Firewall Rule Checker scan is designed to be used by a network engineer as a way to validate proper and expected interpretation of the rule changes every time updates are made.

• Service Health Check – The GapVision Service Health Check continually monitors the availability of a network service. In the event that a monitored service is down for any reason, the administrator is immediately notified. This is a potent tool in the fight against denial of service attacks and server failure.

• Web Performance & Content Monitor– IPxray GapVision’s Web Performance & Content Monitor is a unique blend of website characteristic monitoring that checks response time threshold; minimum / maximum file sizes; HTTP response code and ASCII strings (tag exempt).

• Web Security Monitor – The Web Security Monitoring module enables users to create a security fingerprint of any Web server that is accessible to the Internet. Once the IT staff is happy with the security fingerprint of the server, the fingerprint will become the ‘Baseline Security Fingerprint’ for that particular server. IPxray will scan the server on a daily, weekly, or monthly basis as requested by the user. IPxray will notify the user only if there is a change to the ‘Baseline Security Fingerprint’.
