I love this industry. Let me share with you how you can do the same thing. Heres my story.
Mark Victor Hansen had invited me to speak in a breakout at his seminar in Atlanta and offered me an Expo Table. My Wake Up! Team was very excited of being provided the opportunity to market my topic, Authors Wanted! How to be a best selling Author in 17 weeks"! We were told that historically, most speakers would realize anywhere from $1000-$2500 in back of the room sales after a 45 minute presentation -- IF -- they were good.
My instinct told me that if the right people were in the room, I would be able to share our model of being a contributing author along with a TEAM, as opposed to writing a complete book by yourself. Id like to share how we filled the room with the right people.
We set the ground work to succeed long before the Atlanta Event. Mark Victor Hansen's staff was helpful by providing the opportunity to mail a post card to all event attendees. We quickly put together a post card highlighting my presentation topic: Authors Wanted! How to become a best Selling author in 17 weeks, with Dr. Wayne Dyer, Deepak Chopra, and Mark Victor Hansen. We also invited event attendees to participate in a FREE teleclass prior to the event. The post card was very effective... we had 40 people sign up for the teleclass, I provided good content, resulting in 40 new friends who knew about us before we arrived in Atlanta!
Can you imagine doing the same thing? If I can do it, so can you! Start by getting your life on Purpose, create a product to reflect that purpose and... GIVE GREAT CONTENT.
Upon arrival in Atlanta, My Wake Up! Team was clear on our intentions for this seminar. We were fortunate that over 30 Contributing Wake Up! Authors were willing to be a part of the fun! Together, we created so much excitement at our booth that at any given time we had multitudes trying to figure out why we were so popular. My breakout session was scheduled for Sunday at 7:30 am -- not only was the early morning session a challenge, but we were facing competition from five other presentations! My Wake Up! Team strategized-its what they do best!
500 Flyers later offering a FREE Wake Up...Live the Life you Love book, we handed out the flyer over the entire weekend -- right up until my 7:30 am breakout session! On Sunday morning, my Team was in place at 7:00 directing attendees to my session. Can you see the power in this?
I am sharing this story with you because this is MARKETING. If you are to be successful in this business, you better learn the art of Marketing and promoting yourself. You need to be BOLD. You need to work on yourself with meditation, exercise, use visualization and most important, you need to have a TEAM.
As a result of our efforts, I was already connected to the 50+ people attending my session. I had the opportunity to shake their hands and speak with them. By Sunday morning, they were my friends. They eagerly listened as I shared how they could easily become a best selling author in 17 weeks. I told them that most people have published 2 or 10 books, but more than likely, these books were probably sitting in boxes in their garage. Why? Because they did it alone and didnt have any idea of how to sell 100,000 books! I shared how as a Wake Up...Live the Life you Love contributing author you become part of a powerful TEAM!
I re-affirmed the benefits of working with a Team. These benefits include weekly tele-classes providing invaluable educational marketing experience while building a very powerful network of team players amongst authors. I also shared how when the Wake Up...Live the Life you Love book is published, it quickly goes to best selling status as the result of the synergy created by contributing authors and my team.
My own experience as a first time author drove home the importance of having a Team to work with along side you. I was on my own when writing my first book, filled with self doubt, fears and overwhelmed with the sheer effort. I shared this truth willingly, from my heart and soul.
Today, I am living on purpose and looking for like minded people to become contributing authors and family members" in our Wake Up! series of books. Along with my Team, weve created a system to really help people in catapulting their speaking careers, the how to" of teleseminars, internet marketing and effectively marketing books. As we open our 12th Wake Up! Book, I cant help but be thankful for the friends and affiliates made along the way and for my Team who supports me in my journey.
