Sydney Inventor Forgoes Patent for Ebay

Sydney inventor Robert Harder has decided to sell plans to his Aluminium Energy Cell invention on Ebay rather than apply for a patent.

(PRWEB) October 16, 2004 -- Sydney inventor Robert Harder's excitement turned to disappointment when he realized he could not afford to patent his revolutionary Aluminium Energy Cell. He now plans to sell plans to his new technology invention for AU$13.90 (US$9.90, 9.90EUR) on Ebay.

As a recently retrenched appliance serviceman he soon realized that he could not afford to patent his working aluminium battery invention. He stated that patents don't give much protection. He cited the case where LG is still openly selling washing machines in Australia despite being accused of patent violations by the patent holders Fisher & Paykel and Whirlpool.

Robert's invention is a new technology aluminium energy cell discovered by accident, while working on another green" project for non-acid processing of printing plates. The backyard inventor says he has searched local and international patent sites for similar inventions and found none. It is not similar to the well publicized Aluminium-Air Cell which needs a liquid electrolyte and expensive alloys.

Robert is now planning to sell plans for his invention on Ebay. His plans and instructions make it easy for anyone to make their own Aluminium Energy Cell. He is keen to put development of this invention in the hands of the home experimenter.

'By making the plans available on Ebay I have the prospect of achieving three aims. One is an income. The second is for a large number of experimenters to have access to this technology. That puts development in the hands of small businesses, home inventors and experimenters who can benefit from shared knowledge. Thirdly, after development to production stage, it can be manufactured by anyone without expensive patent restrictions.'

His first Experimental Energy Cell Plan auction listing is scheduled for 16th October 2004 and will be available worldwide.
