Taye Drums Announces Taye Endorser Jim Payne & Band In Studio Recording New CD 'Énergie For Savant Records
Taye Drums announced today that Taye Endorser Jim Payne and his Band are in the studio recording their new CD for Savant Records. The new CD, entitled 'Énergie, is expected to be released March 2005, and features his current funk-based organ trio once again exploring the musical spectrum from vintage soul jazz to electrified P-Funk grooves with all-new original material. The Jim Payne Band regular members include Bill Bickford (guitar) and Jerry Z (organ); 'Énergie will also feature two guest artists - renowned Jazz musicians John Scofield (guitar) and Mike Clark (drums). JazzTimes magazine, in reviewing the Jim Payne Bands current CD 'Sensei for their May 2004 issue, stated Drummer Jim Paynes album, 'Sensei, shows him to be the Billy Cobham or perhaps the Buddy Rich of funk drumming-his playing is crisp, precise, and technically impeccable.
