Alaska Animal Rescue to Take Spay/Neuter Program on the Road Mobile Clinic Needs Funding

Animal Rescue organization plans to launch a mobile clinic to spay and neuter pets in the Fairbanks North Star Borough area of Alaska, and provide the surgery on a sliding fee scale based upon income.

(PRWEB) October 17, 2004 -- The Loving Companions Animal Rescue organization plans to launch a mobile clinic to spay and neuter pets in the Fairbanks North Star Borough area of Alaska. It will be the first of its kind for the region and badly needed, according to the group's president.

Donna Buck-Davis says the suffering and destruction of thousands of unwanted animals each year could be prevented if everyone spayed or neutered their pets. But for many low-income families, the cost is out of reach. So the spay/neuter mobile clinic will travel to rural communities and provide the surgery on a sliding fee scale based upon income.

Buck-Davis says, "The spay/neuter operation at regular vet clinics isn't cheap and many people who can afford the day-to-day costs of owning an animal can't afford the surgery. That's why we need to bring the service to them at a cost they can afford." But she says the organization needs financial help to launch the mobile.

Only Part Way There
A 32-foot motor home has been donated. Now the group needs funding to convert it into a veterinary surgical facility, to insure it, and to pay veterinarians for their services.

Buck-Davis is appealing to the general public, businesses, and granting organizations for help in getting this project off the ground and on the road. She says the benefits will be far reaching.

"The mobile clinic will allow us to prevent many litters of unwanted puppies and kittens from being born. And that will prevent a lot of suffering in the future."
