Cell Phone Donation Effort To Benefit WSU Athletics

Homecoming Football Game Targeted As Cell Phone Dropoff Venue

Warren, MI (PRWEB) October 17, 2004 -- Wayne State University wants your trash, so they can turn it into charitable cash.

The Detroit-based university will be collecting used cell phones at its Homecoming football game October 23rd, with the proceeds generated going to the schools athletic department. With the support of the American Cellular Donation Organization (ACDO), the Warriors cheerleaders will canvass the campus in the days leading up to the game, putting up signs and posters asking for cell phone donations. ACDO, which is sponsoring the effort and providing the visual aids needed such as the signs, posters and fliers, will convert the donated cell phones into charitable cash thru the selling of the cell phones to third world countries and small retailers. 100% of the proceeds will go to WSU Athletics.

Mr. Vincent Serio, ACDOs founder and CEO, said, Cell phone donations as fundraisers are becoming popular because there is nothing to buy or sell, nor is any financial donation required. Wayne State University has shown a great deal of enthusiasm, and Im sure their efforts will not go unrewarded."

Mr. Serio noted that the university also has promoted the effort on the athletic departments website, during prior home games, and in the football program. In addition, emails have been sent to university personnel, encouraging donations.

According to Mr. Serio, there are over 500 million idle cell phones in the United States, with that number growing every day. He added that cell phone donations are also good for the environment, because donated cell phones are taken out of the waste stream and recycled if they dont work, eliminating the possibility of them ending up in landfills, where their toxins could seep into drinking water.

WSUs Homecoming game starts at 12 noon, at Adams Field, which is located at E. Warren Avenue and the Lodge Freeway.
