Ventura Commercial Photographer Schaf Photo Hired to Create All Images for Ventura Architectural Weekend 2004

Ventura Architectural Weekend presents historical home tours in Downtown and Midtown Ventura. Stephen Schafer owner of Schaf Photo has created photographs of all the locations and historical homes on the tours, for PR, Advertising, Programs, and the new San Buenaventura Conservancy website.

(PRWEB) October 17, 2004 -- All the images from this years 2004 Ventura Architectural Weekend collateral and website were created by Schaf Photo studios in Ventura California. Schaf Photo specializes in documentary, architectural, and commercial photography in Southern California and nationally. This year's weekend of home tours and a Period Exposition and Trade Show will be advertised with architectural images exclusively from the Ventura photo studio.

For 15 years Schaf Studios has produced award winning commercial photography and specializes in architectural interiors & exteriors and location documentary work all over the U.S. The studio website can be seen at www.schafphoto.com

"For years we've been delivering transparencies and digital files, but we've just upgraded our equipment to facilitate Historical American Building Survey ( HABS ) projects," says Schaf, " But the funny thing is that it feels like we took a step back into the past, because I'm leaving my digital camera in the studio and shooting with equipment that Ansel Adams made famous. HABS surveys are required documents of threatened historical buildings and sites, that have to be photographed on (now out of fashion) 4x5 large format black & white film. In addition, all the film and prints have to be archivally hand processed in a wet darkroom, just like 50 years ago. The new digital technology is still not accepted at the Library of Congress where HABS surveys are recorded and archived, so in addition to the latest wide angle large format cameras, we've also outfitted a state of the art archival darkroom in the age when most photographers are selling their enlargers and buying ink-jet photo printers."

Schaf became interested in historically significant architecture, growing up in Ventura where the 101 Freeway cut the city off from much of the 60's and 70's scorched earth development. "The number of old homes in Ventura is really remarkable compared to many California Beach towns, because Ventura was sleepy, it didn't pay to tear down the historical downtown with its craftsman and Victorian homes, and now suddenly we're realizing we have authentic small town charm that's worth saving. I'm really excited to be a part of the documentation of this event, and I'm glad I could help this year's Architectural Weekend flourish," says Schaf

Here's some Ventura Architectural Weekend 2004 Info:
Last Year's first annual Ventura Architecture Weekend 2003 launched with resounding success, heightening the awareness and pride of the City of San Buenaventura, celebrating its unique architectural and cultural landscape. Nearly one thousand people attended the three-day event from places as far away as Hawaii and Montana.

Dateline: November 12-14, 2004
The three-day Ventura Architecture Weekend takes place Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, November 12th-14th, 2004. The Weekend starts with an elegant Gala at Ventura's Beaux Arts City Hall, which is on the National Register of Historic Places. All home tours will begin at The Pierpont and the Inn will once again be the location for the Period Exposition.

The Home Tours are on Saturday and Sunday from 11-4 with Saturday showcasing the early (1890s to 1920s) architectural development of the Westside and Downtown areas; and Sunday featuring the eastward movement of the town in the Midtown (1920s-1930s). Concurrently, the Period Exposition will feature restoration vendor exhibitors like the California Lantern Company, Crown City Hardware, and The Antique Stove Shop. Additionally, lectures and workshops will be given throughout the day with a popular return of national historic design celebrity, Jane Powell, author of Bungalow Bathrooms and Bungalow Kitchens sharing her expertise.

Tickets to the events are on sale and can be purchased through the Ventura Visitors and Convention Bureau (800.333.2989) or online at the San Buenaventura Conservancy website at www.sbconservancy.org
As a result of the first Ventura Architecture Weekend 2003, the San Buenaventura Conservancy has been born. Its mission is heritage education through advocacy and hosting The Ventura Architecture Weekend is the group's biggest annual event.
