William Shatners Invasion Iowa" Misrepresented By News Media

Criticdoctor.com responds to the news media's inaccuracies concerning William Shatners new reality TV series Invasion Iowa."

(PRWEB) October 19, 2004 --- William Shatner may have fooled the fine folks of Riverside, Iowa (the future birthplace of Captain Kirk) into believing they were filming a Hollywood movie in their small town, but Criticdoctor.com says the news media is trying to fool America and the rest of the world into believing the residents of Riverside were all angry after Shatner announced the movie was a hoax and presented the town with a check for $100,000.

Criticdoctor.com sited several sources including the editorial staff of Iowa City Press-Citizen who said, "Think of the disappointment of Riverside residents, who have for 20 years, tried to get Shatner to attend a 'Trek Fest'...they now get to tell everyone, 'We got fooled."

The website Femalefirst.co.uk reported, 'Star Trek' actor William Shatner left hundreds of fans furious after falsely convincing them they would be extras in his latest film." Digitalspy.com also called the people of Riverside, Iowa "disillusioned and irate."

I was there when Shatner made his announcement to a crowd of 800 people and they were absolutely thrilled!" said Herb Kane, publisher of Criticdoctor.com -- a site that specializes in reviewing the opinions of movie critics. I dont know how the press can distort the facts so badly. Is this the medias way of getting back at Shatner because he fooled them?"

William Shatner, who played Captain Kirk on the TV show Star Trek," was really making an 8 week reality show for Spike TV to see how a small town would react to a Hollywood production coming to their community. Shatner said, We came because of your love for science fiction and we stayed because of your warmth, hospitality and spirit. The people of this town are the polar opposite of the types you too often find in Hollywood."

Nicholas Meyer, who directed Star Trek: The Wrath of Khan" (1982) and Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country" (1991), told the Iowa City Press-Citizen newspaper that he was "appalled" at William Shatners Invasion Iowa" and said, I read they [the people of Riverside got some money so it's all right. Isn't that what you do to a hooker? I'm shocked," he said.

What a pompous ass," said Kane. Meyer was absolutely rude and inconsiderate to the people of Riverside, Iowa. Its amazing how fast he is quick to judge when he wasn't even there for Shatner's speech."

Not all of the press was negative," said Kane. Columnist Mike Deupree from the Cedar Rapids Gazette said it best: Maybe it would be a good idea to put the recriminations about the prank on hold until we see the result."

Criticdoctor.com just released PART ONE of a column series called Invasion Iowa: Is this a movie? No, its a reality TV show." Kane, who was on the set for several days, will convey his personal thoughts about the people, the show and William Shatner. A large photo gallery will accompany the column.
