Sarasota Inventor is All Thumbs

Six months ago when 43-year-old licensed massage therapist Greg Polins started with severe pain in his wrists and thumbs, he feared the end of his career was near. It was at this point he knew he had no choice but to create a solution that would allow him to continue his work.

Having an artistic background helped Polins draft initial drawings in order to conceptualize a glove-like tool that would protect his thumbs during deep tissue and neuromuscular massage. At the time, Polins owned and operated a Sarasota-based massage clinic that just happened to be next door to a company that produced custom prosthetics. “Once I had a few drawings, I was able to get a few rapid prototypes with the help of my neighbor and then started searching for a patent attorney”, Polins said.

After registering his invention with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, Polins spent time with Sarasota-based PRO Design Solutions a specialty software engineer company that created a 3D model of his invention and a few rapid prototypes. He then created a small user group of about ten massage therapists and asked them a series of questions after using the device for a few days. The response was overwhelming and 10 out 10 therapists wanted to keep the prototypes. “At that point, I knew I had invented something that was going to change an entire industry…something that would help thousands of people keep their careers and income”, Polins said.

Although Massage therapy is a relatively new market it doesn’t look like the industry will be doing anything less than exploding each year. According to the American Massage Therapy Association, 28% of adult Americans got a massage within the last five years. Of that 28%, 23% got them for relaxation and stress reduction, 53% for health-related reasons, and 15% to pamper themselves. And Twenty-five percent of Americans expect to get a massage within the next 12 months.

Polins has also done his homework in the industry; currently there are no marketed massage tools or patents that even resemble Thumbsavers™. The invention is currently patent pending and the name and logo is in the process of being successfully trademarked. Polins recently negotiated production with a Sarasota-based manufacturer with mold production in Taiwan.

PolTech is also in the process of pre-production on a DVD training video in order to promote various ways that users can enhance the experience of Thumbsavers. Polins will attend various industry tradeshows and plans on meeting with massage schools around the country to educate users on the tools preventative maintenance qualities.

PolTech is taking orders Thumbsavers at They are two versions available; male and female. The unit price is $19.95 each or two for $30.00.
