The City of Placentia and OnTrac Joint Powers Authority have both a short-term and long-term plan to eliminate train whistle use along the BNSF corridor throughout the City. The long-term solution is to grade-separate all crossing. Underpasses at Melrose Street and Placentia Avenue are in progress. The remainder of the route is more than half way through the environmental review process. The short-term solution is a Quiet Zone project now under construction. It has become a model for cities across the United States.
