Today, Dogwoof Pictures has announced the acquisition of all UK rights for the Italian film DONÂT MOVE (Non Ti Muovere), starring Penelope Cruz, to be released in selected cities across the country on March the 18th 2004 (tbc).
DONÂT MOVE (Non ti muovere) is an award-winning Italian drama that was selected by the Cannes film festival under Un Certain Regard. It is based on the novel by Margaret Mazzantini, and tells the story of Italia (Cruz), a broken woman who becomes involved with an upper-crust physician (Castellitto).
DONÂT MOVE is directed by first time director Sergio Castellitto. ItÂs leading cast, Castellitto and Penélope Cruz both won the Donattello for Best Actor/Actress. CruzÂs performance is said to be the best of her career by most critics.
Dogwoof Pictures has announced that Penélope Cruz confirmed her attendance to the London premiere, as well as her help promoting the film. She is absolutely thrilled about DONÂT MOVEÂs UK release, and has said "I'm very happy that Don't Move is getting release in the UK because it has been one of the most special films that I have made in my career.. Of all the characters that I have played, this is the one I loved the most.. à think Sergio Castellito has made a beautiful piece of art, and I feel very proud to be part of it".
Andy Whittaker, CEO of Dogwoof Pictures added, "It is magnificent to add such a powerful film to our slate, and we are delighted to count on the support of Penelope Cruz and Sergio Castellitto for promoting the film to UK audiences."
The film, acquired from Capitol Films, is a co-production of Rome-based Cattleya, and Spain's Alquimia Cinema. It grossed almost $5 million in Italy.
