Vampires and Religious Controversy in "The Forgotten Scribes" - Debut Novel From Anthony W. Downen, Now Available

A religiously controversial novel from first time author Anthony W. Downen. A fictional commentary of social inequalities, personal affliction, and religious intolerance, all seen through the eyes of post apocalyptic pirates, elves, and most certainly vampires. Vampires who have uncovered the only known copy of the bible and believe it to be about themselves.

(PRWEB) October 22, 2004 --In a world that is held together by the taut fabric of the hierarchy it imposes, the reach of its influence can touch the brink of war. Ten thousand years after World War III, the history of humanity has come nearly to a full circle on Balimyst, amidst every imaginable fantasy creature that were once left to dreams. Religion is left to lesser Gods and enchanters for praise and amazement. Prayers said only in defense of the all controlling Senate. Immortality is the fairy-tale of horrific monsters at sea. But for the vampires, the unveiling of the only surviving copy of the Holy Bible holds a greater revelation than what was meant. Follow the journey of Aramis Faro, a common man, who travels upon both sides of the coin. Finding his way between the light and the dark while dodging not only the powers that be, but the prophecies that shall.

About the Author
Author Anthony W. Downen was born in Corpus Christi, Texas on January 25, 1980 to Sheila and Rex Downen. The youngest child of blue collar workers Mr. Downen received little support at home in his writing endeavors. He turned to school and friends for support. He ventured into many different art forms before proclaiming himself a poet and writer, influenced primarily by Shakespeare. Introduced to the world of horror and fantasy at a young age he developed a love for the supernatural and grotesque. In his youth the quest for God and religion left him jaded after discovering that the Holy Bible had been translated, and interpreted into many different volumes What I did not understand as a kid was that the word of God was up for interpretation." Later his love of horror and fantasy would collide with his fascination of religion through Aramis Faro and The Forgotten Scribes. This first manuscript is a work of fiction, based on the authors personal struggle with religion and his belief that ...at the end of the day, when all things are said and done, it is faith in tomorrow that keeps yesterday a history to be remembered." Mr. Downen currently resides in Escondido California with his wife, while working in the provocative world of gaming. He is also working on the second book in the series of The Forgotten Scribes, and a screen adaptation of the first book.

Review from Charles Cordova, Author of Journey to Myridia
One of the best-written tales of love, loss, betrayal, courage--and vampires--that I have ever read. With the skill and confidence of a master story-teller, first-time author Anthony Downen pulls you into his world and shows you the human soul at its darkest and at its most noble.

I am tempted to tell you the ending, but this epic tale contains too powerful, too strange and too downright fascinating a twist to reveal until you have read this story yourself. Suffice it to say that the author has redefined "hell."

This is a dark tale, but it is a brilliantly dark one, weaving in questions of religion, ethics, love, honor, good and evil, and right and wrong. It is, in short, a story of the human condition.

I know Mr. Downen, who is only in his mid-twenties, will be presenting us with other books in the saga of Aramis Faro, and I eagerly look forward to reading each of them. What we have here is a brilliant new author with a bright future ahead of him. I cannot praise The Forgotten Scribes highly enough and would gladly recommend it to anyone who likes a good vampire story. --"Good" in at least two senses of the word.- Charles Cordova
