MTV Latin America and Liveanimals Tap Venus Eye Trap for VMA Graphics

MTV's Live Video Music Awards Latin America show will showcase work by graphic design and animation company Venus Eye Trap.

(PRWEB) October 22, 2004 -- Hosted by Paulina Rubio and featuring performances from Lenny Kravitz, Black Eyed Peas, The Rasmus, Beastie Boys, Colombian singer/songwriter  Juanes, Mexican pop/rock princess Julieta Venegas, Vicentico, Spain's Alex Ubago and DJ Toy, the show will take place on Thursday, October 21, 2004 at the historic Jackie Gleason theater in Miami Beach. Show airs on MTV2, MTV Espanol (U.S.) and MTV Puerto Rico on October 21 at 9:00 p.m. ET. You can also catch it on MTV U.S. on Saturday, October 30 at 11:00 p.m. PT/ET.

Venus Eye Trap was called in to create dozens of animations that will play back on monitors designed as part of the set. A first for the company was to design flat graphics that were output and wrapped around portions of the set. "This was an exciting project for us," says Jim Read, Creative Director at Venus Eye Trap. "We were really inspired by some of the work that MTV Latin America had done for the show graphics package and enjoyed deconstructing elements to use in both the set wraps and the video wallpapers."

Ray Winkler, Production Designer of THE MARK FISHER STUDIO, provided Venus Eye Trap with a 3-D model of the theater which the company used in its exploration for the set wraps. "It was amazing to have Ray ask us, 'do you want the 3-D model?' as it wouldn't have been possible to visualize the artwork in context without it. Because this was the first project of this nature that we've been involved with, Ray's help and guidance was invaluable." Having the 3-D model of the set as well as the Jackie Gleason Theater allowed Jim and his crew to provide Liveanimals and MTV Latin America with snapshots of what the set wraps would look from the actual camera positions for the show, which greatly simplified the design and production process.
