(PRWEB) October 25, 2004 -- don Quijote, Spains largest provider of in-country Spanish courses in Spain and Mexico, is offering 20 scholarships to educational institutions presenting aggressive plans to promote the learning of the Spanish language. From today through December 14, universities, colleges, community colleges, high schools and language schools world-wide are invited to present their plans in Fundación don Quijote´s second annual scholarship programme.
This years international competition follows the great success of the inaugural Scholarship Competition in 2003. Each winning institution will select a student to receive the scholarship, which will consist of a 2-week language course at one of don Quijotes schools in Spain or Mexico, including accommodations and cultural activities.
The programme aims to:
- Reward educational institutions going the extra mile to encourage their students to learn foreign languages and Spanish in particular.
- Create a forum through which institutions share great language programme ideas.
- Provide an opportunity for 20 motivated and deserving students to experience the magic of study abroad.
Announcing the launch of this years competition, Rene de Jong, founder and general director of don Quijote, commented, The response generated by our 2003 competition, in which educational institutions from 34 countries participated, is a terrific indicator of the growing interest in the Spanish language all over the world, as well as the passion of those entrusted to teach it. Certainly statistics show Spanish gaining increasing importance as a language of business, diplomacy, and international communication. We are pleased to reward institutions that provide creative incentives for their students and their language teachers to continually improve their skills."
Programme details and supporting information, including current statistics on the importance of the Spanish language, may be found on the don Quijote Web site at www.donquijote.org/20scholarships. Winners will be announced on the site on January 17.
don Quijote is dedicated to the teaching of Spanish as a foreign language through an interactive and communicative method. In 2003, Don Quijote welcomed more than 12,000 students from 60 countries to its schools in Salamanca, Madrid, Barcelona, Tenerife, Sevilla, Granada and Valencia, Spain, and Guanajuato, Mexico.
