It's said that two heads are better than one. Two Northwest Ohio businesses are confident that the same can be true of companies – that two are better than one in providing the full range of marketing and communications services to its clients.

With that philosophy in mind, the Lauerer Markin Group Inc. and Thread Inc. have established a strategic alliance to provide both companies' clients a broader range of communications services, from comprehensive strategic planning and marketing management to next-generation electronic and Web-based communications tools.

Both businesses are based from LMG's 22,000 sq. ft. facility in Arrowhead Park, Maumee, Ohio.

“We're individual businesses, each with very specific capabilities and strengths,” explained LMG President Kenneth Lauerer. “But we have found a real synergy in the full complement of services we can offer. We can serve as the 'one source' solution for our clients' full range of communications needs – whether internal or external, 'traditional' or technology based. And while we have many capabilities in common, there are areas where we can enhance Thread's efforts, and vice versa.”

Combined, the two firms offer integrated business solutions that include Web-based technology and strategic business communications, as well as comprehensive marketing communications, strategic planning and integration, corporate image development, advertising, promotion, internal and external communications, product introductions, special events, media relations, and Web-based interactive communications.

“We're doing business in a global marketplace today, and that requires an entirely new communications approach,” said Judy McFarland, president of Thread Inc. “So much of internal communications, for example, requires the capability for instant communications on a worldwide basis. Thread's expertise is in developing technology-based management tools. With LMG's participation we can now offer the internal and external communications expertise to bring those messages to all our clients' audiences. This strategic alliance allows us to offer the art and science of marketing and communications.”

Employees from both firms will be located throughout the Arrowhead Park facility.

“We will remain distinctly self operating businesses,” said Joe Sharp, Thread CEO. “But we'll consult and partner with one another on current and new business. Our objective is to make this a seamless operation, by building an infrastructure that will allow us to share some technologies and create other efficiencies. At the same time we'll both maintain our independence.”

Will this result in a merger or other arrangement in the future?

“We have to wait and see how these companies grow, both singularly and together,” said Bill Markin, LMG CEO. “We come to marketing and communications from two divergent perspectives, and we need to take the time to blend our cultures.”
