Historical Site First in New York State To Conduct Public Ghost Hunts

People have opportunity to explore the paranormal in an overnight ghost hunt. First historical site in New York to open to the public for overnight investigations.

(PRWEB) October 24, 2004 -- Is there really such thing as a ghost? Strange history and legends surround the old Genesee County Nursing Home in East Bethany. Rumors of figures in windows, strange noises, and eerie stories have circulated among local residents for over one hundred and fifty years. Now, the old Genesee County Nursing Home -- currently known as Rolling Hills Country Mall -- will be allowing the curious to take part in overnight ghost hunts.

People have had curiosity for years about this place, and now wed like them to see the reality of what is here" said Lori Carlson, owner of Rolling Hills Country Mall. She believes the place is haunted, but thinks that everyone should decide for themselves. Rolling Hills will be the first historical site in New York State open to the public for overnight ghost hunts. This follows other historical sites across the nation including the Mansfield Reformatory in Ohio, and the Moundsville Penitentiary in West Virginia among many others that have opened their halls to the paranormal community.

According to Western New York Paranormal, a paranormal research team now investigating Rolling Hills, its not unusual to walk the halls of the old home hearing unexplained doors opening and closing, experiencing physical touches, smelling odd odors, and seeing apparitions that move across a vacant room or hallway. Weve only just begun our long term investigation at Rolling Hills, but already we have material we cant explain - a childs voice on a tape recording, misty figures in hallways, and mysterious floating orbs among other things" stated a team leader for the group. He believes strongly that theres a lot of mystery in this building waiting to be discovered, and the great thing is you dont need to be a scientist to do it."

The Rolling Hills Ghost Hunts are intended to be a serious but informal attempt to document paranormal activity within this historical building. In the buildings history, over 1,000 occupants died on the property and most have not passed on. This building has a long tormented history as a former poor house, asylum of the insane, orphanage, TB Ward, and nursing home. Ghost hunts provide an unusual first-hand experience to search out other realms for those with curiosity.

A ghost hunt will run on selected dates from 9:00 PM until dawn with a pizza party at midnight. Participants will be provided with an informal tour and history of the building along with its local legend and lore. Participants are then encouraged to explore the halls and rooms of the building, including old resident rooms, mysterious tunnels under the property, and even the morgue among many others in search of unexplained phenomenon. Volunteers from Western New York Paranormal will be roaming the building providing guidance to those who need it while making certain everyone stays safe on their adventure.

It doesnt matter if youre a skeptic or an avid believer; these ghost hunts have something for everyone. All you need is a camera with an open mind" said Carlson. Rolling Hills Ghost Hunts are scheduled year around on selected dates. Ghost hunts are an overnight adventure beginning at 9:00 PM and continuing through dawn with a pizza party at midnight.
