RateItAll.com celebrates fifth birthday.

San Francisco, CA (PRWEB) October 31, 2004 -- Online ratings community RateItAll (www.rateitall.com), a leading aggregator and publisher of public opinion, today celebrated its fifth birthday.

RateItAll provides a variety of free tools and services related to the exchange of opinions.    The RateItAll Web site is divided into three principal sections:

1) RateItAlls main index allows users to find and share opinions on consumer products, celebrities, travel destinations, entertainment, politics, and more.

2) The RateItAll WebList section indexes and categorizes interactive ratings lists (WebLists") created and managed by RateItAll members. Registered users can create their own WebLists for no charge.

3) RateItAll Local allows users to give feedback on local merchants such as restaurants, doctors, and retail stores. The service aggregates the opinions of the community and ranks each merchant within a specific category by community rating. RateItAll Local also provides contact information and driving directions for each merchant.

When we launched RateItAll five years ago today, we envisioned it as a site where you could go to find and share opinions about consumer products," says Co-Founder and COO Lawrence Coburn. Today you can still do that. But now you can also use RateItAll to find a personal trainer, express your political views to a swing voter in Ohio, meet people with similar interests, warn others about a lousy mechanic, create your own poll, and blog your opinions of just about everything."

The RateItAll community consists of approximately 100,000 registered users, and reaches a monthly audience of about 1/2M unique visitors. Current projects include rolling out RateItAll Local throughout the U.S., making RSS feeds of ratings data available to other Web sites, and developing a mobile application of the service.

With each new feature, we get a little closer to our vision of being a place where users can literally rate it all," says Coburn. Clearly there are still a number of untapped areas to this model: housing, teachers, employers, just to name a few... its a big project. But as the success of Web sites like Craigslist (www.craigslist.org) demonstrates -- one should never underestimate the scalability of online community."
