Special Week-Long Retreat for Women with Type 2 Diabetes to Jumpstart Lifestyle Changes. Presented by reknowned Joslin Diabetes Center, Harvard Medical School and Green Mountain at Fox Run, Vermont.

BOSTON, MA (PRWEB) October 30, 2004 -- Diabetes management is not only about blood glucose control — it requires a balanced lifestyle in tune with both the physical and the mental challenges of the disease. Women with type 2 diabetes will learn techniques to attain that balance through personal, behavioral and nutritional management techniques from Nov. 7-13 at Green Mountain at Fox Run in Vermont.

As part of the program, select staff from Joslin Diabetes Center in Boston will run workshops designed to incorporate exercise and nutritional plans into each participants busy daily routine.
Joslin Diabetes Center, the global leader in diabetes research and care, offers a clinic with experts in every aspect of diabetes management.

Karen A. Chalmers, M.S., R.D., C.D.E., Nutrition Specialist at Joslin, is one of four Joslin staff who will participate in the Green Mountain program, adding a wealth of practical experience to classes that include: Beating Diabetes Burnout; Building Self-Esteem & Assertiveness; Becoming a Skillful Eater; and finally, Taking it Home. Other Joslin staff participating include John Zrebiec, L.I.C.S.W., C.D.E., behavioral specialist in Joslins Section on Behavioral and Mental Health, and Cathy Mullooly, M.S., R.C.E.P., C.D.E., Clinical Exercise and Fitness Specialist at Joslin in Boston. With these personnel and class offerings, the program aims to improve each womans health and quality of life.

This program combines cutting-edge diabetes information from Joslin experts with state-of-the-art weight management science from Green Mountain specialists," says Zrebiec, who is Associate Director of Behavioral and Mental Health at Joslin. This combination creates a very special week that improves both blood glucose control and self-esteem. The women who joined our previous programs truly appreciated the jump start in getting back on track with diabetes care and a healthier lifestyle. The strong bonds that developed between the women in the program and the significant lifestyle changes they made were impressive."
