New York, NY October 30, 2004-Writersandpoets.com is proud to announce their recent acquisition of the distribution rights for the childrens book, Zinzi: A Childs Journey to Self Fulfillment, Giving and Caring, by Lynnette Velasco.

(PRWEB) October 30, 2004 -- Zinzi is a family-based, self-esteem building, multi-cultural rite-of-passage for all children, ages 8-12. The story and vibrant illustrations are rooted in African American historical celebration. Zinzi is popular with New York City public school children and is NYSTL listed.

My book is somewhat of an autobiography and in large part based on the lessons instilled by my family," said political consultant and author, Lynnette Velasco. Lynnette said her parents exposed her to historical black cultural events stemming from their own knowledge because there was very little history taught about black folks in school at that time. She said her book Zinzi is her way of passing along that history. In Zinzi, you enter the legacy of African royalty. You experience Zinzi (the African Queen, Nzinga); brother Asi (the African King, Askia Muhammad); and best friend Carmen (the African Queen, Nefertiti).

Lynnette is please with Zinzis accomplishments to date. She was honored by the PEN Open Book Committee as one of the emerging writers of color. Zinzi was also selected to be part of the duGrummond Childrens book collection at the University of Southern Mississippi.

In 2003, Lynnette was elected President of the prestigious organization founded over twenty years ago by African American Women, Black Americans in Publishing (BAIP), formerly Black Women in Publishing. BAIP is a watchdog organization, which ensures that minorities have access to jobs in all aspects of the publishing industry and that minority needs are met in the arena of education, culture, arts and sciences as regards to production and distribution of subject matter needed to address the wealth of multi-cultural diversity. Lynnette is also a member of the New York Association of Black Journalists, as well as the Society of Childrens Book Writers and Illustrators.

Lynnette is currently developing a self-esteem enriching product line, Good Thoughts for Young Folks," that will include bookmarks, journals, and greeting cards. She visits New York City public and charter schools and enjoys doing Author Read Aloud programs with students. She recently appeared at the Brooklyns Parents for Peace event, Saturday, October 16th, 2004, in Brooklyn, NY. Lynnette is looking forward to her upcoming appearance at the annual Multi-Cultural Childrens Book Fair in Washington D.C. on November 6th. She is available for author signings, school visits, and literacy enrichment programs. Lynnettes theme is Literacy for learning, for living, for life!"
