City of Jacksonville Profiteering from Super Bowl XXXIX (Jumpin Jax Flash: Get that Cash!)
The host city for the NFL's championship game may be profiteering with its exorbitant charges for limousines permits while transporting fans during Super Bowl XXXIX in February 2005. With less than 100 days until the event municipal authorities are price gouging in a very big way.
(PRWEB) October 31, 2004 -- Every year the city that hosts the NFL championship game Super Bowl is host to thousands of football fans, and takes in millions of dollars for the privilege. For about eight days before the big game the host city is inundated with international media representatives, celebrities from all categories of sports, entertainment and politics. Its one huge party. With all these VIPs comes the need for personal private transportation in the form of town cars and limousines: the standard stretch as well as the newest SUV styled stretch vehicles, and limousine buses.
The host city never has enough limousines local to the area to handle the demand for this type of transportation over several days. Many limousine companies come from out of town to assist, and make money.
This year Jacksonvilles city fathers have decided to profiteer to the tune of almost $250 per limousine. This cost will be passed on to the customer discouraging limousine usage. This policy will discourage the companies that might otherwise come in to help. Even worse it may discourage some customers from coming to the game or renting a limousine.
Even more outrageous, that extra $250, taken out of each and every customers pocket, will leave $250 less for the customer to spend on food, drink, entertainment and accommodations.
This seems like a well thought out plan Jacksonville: reduce the number of limousines so there may not be enough; reduce the number of visitors so there may be enough limousines after all; reduce the amount of disposable cash each visitor has, and reduce the amount available to spend on food, clothing, entertainment, gifts, and accommodations. Everyone loses income.
One limousine business owner has decided to lobby her city representative to change the ordinance covering this transportation issue because the mayors office is steadfast in its refusal to support a more reasonable fee for the vehicles from outside of the Jacksonville area.
Good plan Jacksonville, we give you an A++ for greed and stupidity. The businesses in Jacksonville could really use the extra income derived from being the host city for an NFL event as large as the Super Bowl, especially after all the hurricanes. This situation is an example of extreme avarice by a municipal government. Why not simplify the matter and charge everyone $100 to enter the city of Jacksonville? This way the city coffers are full, and Jacksonville is assured the National Football League will never choose Jacksonville again to host its really big game.
