(PRWEB) November 2, 2004 -- This weekend , The Northwest Suburban Home Show comes to Harper College, and will feature exhibits on everything from roofing to flooring to all things in between, said Ruh, spokeswoman for Full House Productions of Oswego.
"Sometimes (doing it yourself) can be overwhelming if you don't have the right tools or the expertise," she said.
"Doing it yourself winds up costing you more in the long run. If you work with professionals you dont need to DIY"" Companies specializing in doors, windows, security, financing, trees, siding, kitchens, waterproofing, heating and cooling, roofing, satellite dishes, furniture, gutters, plumbing, bathrooms, basements, patios and financial planning will be among those at the show, Ruh said.
One of the new exhibitors this year is Art of Living, Inc., which specializes in some of the Most Affordable Custom Drapes in Chicago "They do a gorgeous job," Ruh said. Another newcomer is Imperial Design, specializing in tankless water heaters for your home.
The Better Business Bureau of Chicago will also be in attendance. "We do a lot of research and make sure the right people are there," Ruh said. "But having the Better Business Bureau at the show helps a lot, too, because that keeps the fly-by-night companies out of the show. If you have a question regarding a company you can look them up through the Better Business Bureau.
"Think about it. What is your frame of reference for contractors and services your considering to do work for your home? The company that has the biggest ad in the phone book? Unless you can get a referral, you don't know what you're getting.
The Home Shows provide a neutral setting where conversation and ideas come naturally. Participating companies Full House Productions has been doing home shows since 1990.
"This," Ruh said, "is a nice time of year to have a home show because we still have time to catch up with some of the exterior and interior projects before the holiday season. "Mr. Fix It, Lou Manfredini" will be discussing energy savings Friday 6pm. and Saturday at 11 am. Joe Dillet from "The Carving Shop" will be demonstrating hand carving techniques. Another perk will be free roses from Rio Roses for the first 500 women who come through the door.
There is no admission fee because, "we want to cut out any barrier that would stand between a contractor and a homeowner talking in a neutral setting where buying decisions are being made," Ruh said. "Why pay to get information they need?"
