In Your Dreams Sex Discrimination: Men-only Group Alters The Balance

Men dream more about sex and violence than women do. These are difficult issues to discuss with women and, in most dream groups, men get overwhelmed by women and their issues. This is why Dr David Jenkins, Ph.D. has started the first men-only dream group in Oakland, CA.

Oakland, CA (PRWEB) November 16, 2004 -- Men dream more about sex than women do, about three times more. They also have nearly twice as many dreams about physical violence. These are two reasons that dream analyst, Dr David Jenkins, believes men should have their own dream groups.

If you’ve ever noticed that women are more comfortable talking about their dreams than men, you’re not alone. It’s an established fact. Jenkins, who has a Ph.D. in Psychology, has puzzled over this for several years. In his typical dream group, he says, the women outnumber the men and sometimes, he suspects, they overwhelm them. His solution: an all-male dream group.

Jenkins has established a new, men-only, drop-in dream group— the only one in the Bay Area. It meets monthly and the next meeting is on Monday November 22nd from 7pm to 9pm at 554 Grand Avenue, Oakland. Each session is $10 (invite a friend, no extra charge). The only requirement is that you bring a dream to discuss. You can read more about it at his website, www.PracticalDreamWork.com or call him at (510) 644 2369.

Jenkins, who offers numerous mixed dream groups in Berkeley and Oakland, says that, in Western societies, men don’t easily share their dreams. “Perhaps most of us men have reservations about showing ourselves in front of women” he says. “For instance, when we dream about self-defence, destruction or aggression, could women understand that? Aren’t men most comfortable discussing their sex lives with other men?” he asked. Jenkins’ “best guess” is that these kind of dreams are much easier for other men to understand and that’s why mixed groups are harder But, why should men look at their dreams anyway? “Research” he says “also suggests that talking about their dreams is good for people. One study showed that divorced men who had vivid dreams suffered less depression. And the way to more vivid dreams, Jenkins says, is to practice with the ones you already have.
