Third Price Hike for Powergen Sees Them Slip Down the Tables on Price

(PRWEB) November 5, 2004 -- Powergen customers face further bad news following todays announcement by the company that they will increase gas and electricity prices by up to 10.2 per cent on some of its products. This is the third price hike by Powergen in less than a year.
Existing customers can expect the new tariffs come into effect from the 29th November 2004. Electricity customers face an average increase of 8.9 per cent or 23 per year while gas customers face rises of 9.6 per cent or 32 per year. Dual fuel customers can expect bills to rise by an average 9.3 per cent or 54 per year, and online customers will see an average increase of 10.2 per cent or 52 per year. Customers on Powergens Age Concern tariff will remain unaffected.
Neil Ranatunga, Energy Analyst at www.uSwitch.com comments: Powergen has gone for the softly, softly approach to price hikes, rather than one large leap as seen by British Gas earlier this year. This has done well to combat negative press coverage as the headline figures have been lower, however todays price hike does bring them inline with record increases introduced earlier this year by the likes of British Gas and EDF Energy.
Its imperative that customers shop around now and not wait until they receive their bill. Despite recent price hikes across all suppliers, there are still good deals to be had, which customers should look to take advantage of now.
Regardless of Powergens price changes, their Age Concern and Online plans remain competitive."
