Private equity and venture capital firm Funk Ventures today announced the addition of Drew Thacker and Tom Oliver to its corporate advisory board. The announcement was made by Andy J. Funk, CEO and Chairman of Funk Ventures.
The firmÂs advisory board helps the firm stay informed on trends and opportunities in the various industries most influential to its venture capital, investment banking and real estate business units. Each a recognized authority with a proven track-record, Mr. Thacker and Mr. Oliver bring over 40 years of collective experience in the wellness, medical and defense industries to the Funk Ventures advisory board.

Mr. Thacker has had extensive experience in managing and developing the growth of global companies such as Coors Brewing, Compaq Computer, Earthgrains, ConAgra, and Southwest Airlines, and is widely known for having arranged the ExxonMobil merger. HeÂs held positions including: Executive VP for the LTV, Vought Aerospace Group where he was instrumental in orchestrating development of the B-2 "Stealth Bomber", VP of General Dynamics, Abilene Division where he led production operations for Cruise Missile and component production for F-16 programs; and Corporate Product Engineering for Northern Telecom and Hewlett-Packard, where he leveraged the integration of telecommunications with computing platforms.
Mr. ThackerÂs undergraduate degrees from California State Polytechnic University in Aerospace Engineering and Industrial Management have been augmented with advanced degrees from Cal Tech, Ph.D. Material Science; and Claremont Graduate University, MBA; where he studied under the guidance of Peter Drucker and has incorporated his "integrated management approach" into his practice.
Mr. Oliver also brings significant domain experience to the Funk Ventures advisory board. Early in his career, Mr. Oliver served as President of Artco-Bell, a Texas furniture manufacturing company, as well as Vice President of internationally-known Dole Food Company. He also held various executive management positions with companies such as Nabisco, Arnold Food Company and General Foods.
More recently, Mr. Oliver served as Vice President of PowerBar, where he successfully sold the company to Nestle SA before joining medical device company Cool Systems as Chief Executive Officer. At Cool Systems, Mr. Oliver just recently released the company's medical device, GameReady, which cuts recovery and rehabilitation time for injuries of any kind in half using a patented technology originally developed for NASA spacesuits.
Mr. Oliver is a graduate of the Stanford Executive Program and received his MBA in Marketing and Finance from the University of Delaware. He also holds a MS degree in Personnel, Counseling, and Guidance from Troy State University and a BS in Mechanical Engineering from the US Air Force Academy. Mr. Oliver was an instructor pilot in the US Air Force for nine years while flying both supersonic jets and propeller combat aircraft.
