Student's Vote Identical to Parent's in Florida

Voting Online, Kids Mirror Adult Ballot

Seattle, WA (PRWEB) November 6, 2004 -- Thousands of Okaloosa County Florida adult voters waited for hours (in long lines) to cast their 'early poll-site ballots over the last two weeks. During their normal school day on Tuesday, over 19,000 local school students casually took an average of a minute or two to cast their 'mock ballots - online.

With almost all of the Okaloosa County school students participating in this secure online vote (from Kindergarten through the 12th Grade) the tally is revealing: results from the county now indicate that President Bush received 77.5 % of the cast 'adults votes. The ElectionTRUSTs official results for the 'Kids Vote Too election show a support for the President among students -- the children of those adult voters - at 77.5%.

The apple does not fall far from the tree. Weve proven it. Welcome to the next generation of absentee voting," said John Bodin, Managing Partner of Seattle-based The ElectionTRUST. Think about it. Will voters continue to put up with a 3 hour wait to vote? And how about the hundreds of thousands of US military personnel stationed overseas who cannot even get a paper absentee ballot? Secure remote electronic balloting is the answer."

As a model of that voting scenario The ElectionTRUST, under contract with the Okaloosa Countys Election Supervisors office and County School District, enabled the 'Kids Vote Too internet balloting project (http://www.govote-okaloosa.com/) which has a rich history of introducing young people to the civic empowerment of voting.

"The ElectionTRUST was the perfect solution for a school-day election," said Pat Hollarn, Okaloosa Countys Election Supervisor. All of our educational goals were attained, students and teachers alike were enthusiastic, and everyone had fun in the process. This was a very important part of our mission to instill life-time knowledge and interest in voting."

The ElectionTRUST, working in association with their technology partner EveryoneCounts (www.everyonecounts.com), is dedicated to proving the evolution of election systems

There is no question that America needs to carefully embrace potential voting technology, Bodin continued, However if we are going to engage voters in future elections we need to offer relevant balloting solutions that meet the demands of a maturing electorate. That will be opt-in, online voting".
