Uncovering the Charlotte Art Scene - Upcoming Event Showcases Hidden Jewel" Artists of the Southeast
Six top regional artists are opening up their private collections for Create For A Cure, an annual event designed to increase awareness and raise funds for research and equipment for Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis benefiting The Carolinas Neuromuscular/ALS Center at Carolinas Medical Center. Two local musicians will provide a live soundtrack to the event held in Charlottes South End Design District.
(PRWEB) November 10, 2004 -- This is a place where potential, action and trepidation overlap", explains Robert Langford, motioning towards a peeled back, exposed section of his painting, Latent Capabilities". The abstract painting represents the emotional cycle of believing in oneself and overcoming the misunderstanding of others.
The painting could also describe the state of the Charlotte art scene, which for years has been stocked with capable artists, but seemingly limited to small galleries in the South End and NoDa. Charlottes casual art fans have long felt out of the loop, often not knowing where to go, or finding out about gallery crawls and events after the fact. However, an upcoming event featuring a Dream Team of southeastern artists is attempting to change that.
Create For A Cure:
Langford is one of six regional artists that are opening up their private collections for Create For A Cure, an annual event designed to increase awareness and raise funds for research and equipment for Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis benefiting The Carolinas Neuromuscular/ALS Center at Carolinas Medical Center. Two local musicians will provide a live soundtrack to the event held in Charlottes South End Design District.
Background for Event and Foundation:
Participating artist Robert Langfords wife is a member of the ALS Team. After witnessing first hand the effects of the disease and what the ALS Clinic achieves in their approach in treating those with the disease, he was compelled to pull together an event to support their efforts.
Langford introduced the idea to Jeffrey Rosenfeld, Ph.D., M.D. director of the Carolinas Neuromuscular Program and Gaines Brown, owner of Gaines Brown Design and the building for the event in the South End and avid supporter of charity events in Charlotte. Both men were receptive to the idea of coordinating and sponsoring an annual event.
Effect Locally:
South End has always been the hub of Charlottes art and design community," says Langford. This is a great chance to see the finest of what the district has to offer." Langford, whose past paintings have been purchased for the McDonalds corporate collection, will be showcasing an abstract line focusing on the ranges of emotion while Ross and Shipley showcase their unique sculpture and ceramics.
Were creating an experience around art where people can buy great conversation pieces and be able to share the vision with the artists themselves," adds Langford. The artists have also created a custom line of t-shirts and posters for the event, available for purchase.
