Nationally Acclaimed Muslim Comedy Tour To Visit Dearborn, Michigan -- Home To The Largest Arab-Amercian Population In The United States
Mulsim comedy tour to stop in Michigan.
Dearborn, MI (PRWEB) November 10, 2004 -- Allah Made Me Funny -- The Official Muslim Comedy Tour," which is currently on a 30-city national tour, will make a highly anticipated stop in Dearborn, Michigan -- home to Americas largest Arab-American population, announced Preacher Moss, the tours executive producer and headline act.
Dearborn represents a very significant stop on the tour," said Preacher Moss. We are thrilled to perform for a community with such a large reach, and for a people who can relate to our comedy from personal experiences."
The first-of-its-kind tour uses comedy to address cultural stereotypes about Muslims. The comedians on the tour poke fun at Muslims and non-Muslims alike, and their comedic material is designed to empower audiences of all ethnic backgrounds with humor that is both educational and entertaining.
Allah Made Me Funny", which launched in Washington, D.C., continues to receive international media attention from high-profile print and broadcast outlets including The Washington Post, UPI, The Chicago Sun Times, The San Francisco Chronicle, Time Magazine, BBC, CBC, ABCs Nightline with Ted Koppel, and numerous NBC, ABC, CBS and FOX affiliates.
In addition, the tour is receiving support from numerous national Muslim organizations, many of which are based in Dearborn, MI. The Dearborn show represents a true community event. We are working in conjunction with several Muslim organizations to promote the event, and the advanced interest by the local Muslim community has been tremendous, said Moss.
Preacher Moss is no stranger to the comedy scene. His 20-year comedic resume includes comedy writing for ABCs George Lopez, Saturday Night Lives Darrel Hammond, as well as Damon Wayans. He also created the one-man progressive college comedy/lecture tour called End Of Racism", which is so insightful that it led The Seattle Times to ask if Preacher Moss is a new Dick Gregory?"
The Muslim Comedy Tour features Chicago native, Azhar Usman (nicknamed the Ayatollah of Comedy) who is a former attorney turned comedian, lecturer and community activist. Also on the tours ticket is Azeem, a nationally recognized stand-up comic, activist and founder of Azeems Kids Foundation, a South Carolina based charity dedicated to helping children who are in foster and juvenile care. The Dearborn shows will also feature local Muslim comedian Ramez Habbal, as the opening act.
The trio uses comedy to provoke social assessment. Comedy is the perfect tool to disarm people and invite them to think outside of their fixed cultural perceptions. We are pressing relevant issues to reveal that holding racist or prejudiced views is simply not appropriate or acceptable," said Azhar Usman. But above all, we want to promote laughter through socially relevant comedic material."
The tour will visit the Ford Community & Performing Arts Centre in Dearborn, MI on November 17, and will feature three shows: a matinee premiere for Islamic schools in the Dearborn area, an early show at 7:00 p.m., and a later performance at 9:00 p.m. Tickets are available by calling the box office at 313-943-2354.
