Mother to Sell Personal Belongings on eBay to Raise Money to be by Her Daughter's Side After Cranial Surgery

In a quest to try and raise money to be by her daughter's side after undergoing cranial surgery, Lisa Atkinson, mother of 4, has setup an auction on eBay to sell some of her personal belongings. "We've recently discovered that Brittany (who will turn 14 in December) is suffering from Arterio Venous Malformation (AVM)" states Lisa. "This came as shocking news to us. AVM is a rare congenital disorder that causes severe headaches, seizures, and weakened blood vessels that hemorrhage. When we discovered Brittany was suffering from AVM, we found that she had hemorrhaging on the brain. This has led us to a terrifying outlook for our little girl" explained Lisa.

WICHITA, KS (PRWEB) November 10, 2004 -- The doctors said their best course of treatment is to have Brittany undergo cranial surgery. "This is a frightening prospect for such a young girl to go through. The side effects can be extreme as she can suffer paralysis. She has already begun to show signs of vision problems because of the AVM", states Brittany's mother, Lisa. "Since we live in Wichita, Kansas and Brittany's surgery is going to happen in Canada, I fear that I may not be able to be with my daughter in her greatest time of need. Thus I have opted to sell many of my personal belongings on eBay in order to raise the money needed to join her when she has surgery on November 29th", said Lisa.

An online crafting community (CraftFriends) that Lisa has become involved with, have pulled together to try and help. "Lisa is a wonderful lady who believes in helping others and not asking for help for herself", said Alice Zastoupil of Aberdeen, South Dakota. "She is a sweetheart, and would do anything for her children. She is truly worried that she will not be able to get to be with her daughter during the time needed for the surgery and recovery. This is something that we wish to make possible for her", said Alice.

The crafting community, in an effort to help, is holding an online raffle (www.roughhouseink.com/Lisa/Brittany.html) to help pay the family's travel expenses. Amongst the items up for raffle is a new Pioneer Progressive Scan DVD/MP3 player, a new Nintendo Game Boy Advance SP, $100 worth of soap making supplies, $100 worth of Avon products and a basket full of homemade jar mixes. "Even though I have never met Lisa in person, she has become a friend in my mind, and friends help friends. I wish to enable her to be with her daughter and not have to worry about the money part of it. As a mother of 6 children myself, I know that I would want the same as Lisa- to be with my child during a time such as this. Any parent would want this", said Alice.
