LTI DataComm and Wi-LAN Sign Strategic Partnership Agreement

LTI to sell WiLANs Broadband Wireless Solutions to Federal Government Agencies

Reston, VA (PRWEB) November 11, 2004 -- LTI DataComm, Inc., a leading supplier of network systems and services to U.S. government agencies and Wi-LAN Inc. (TSX:WIN), the global provider of market-leading broadband wireless communications products and technologies and a charter member of the WiMAX Forum(1) today announced the signing of a strategic partnership agreement granting LTI the responsibility to promote and sell WiLANs complete line of high-speed broadband wireless solutions to DoD and Civilian United States federal government agencies.

LTI and Wi-LAN will publicly launch this new partnership at AFCEA TechNet Asia Pacific in Honolulu, Hawaii. At this conference, which takes place November 8 -- 10 at the Sheraton, Waikiki, LTI will showcase Wi-LANs complete line of point-to-point and point-to-multipoint broadband wireless solutions. In addition, LTI will be offering free wireless Internet access to all attendees.

Wireless interoperability is becoming a key component in the current design of government networks for fail-safe and redundant voice and data communications between federal agencies in day-to-day and emergency situations," stated Leo Miller, President of LTI DataComm. Wi-LANs innovative non-line-of sight broadband wireless technologies will allow these agencies to securely and efficiently transmit voice and data over multiple high-speed radio frequencies in any environment."

WiLANs suite of broadband wireless systems, based on our patented technologies, enable scalable communications networks that can provide voice, data and video services in situations where traditional wired infrastructure is absent," said Dr. Sayed-Amr El-Hamamsy, President and CEO, WiLAN Inc. In addition, our broadband wireless systems have the advantage of enabling mobility, which is something wired systems cannot deliver. This, combined with the multi-layered security of our systems, makes them ideal for government applications. We are very pleased to sign this agreement with LTI and look forward to working with them to arm U.S. government agencies with greatly enhanced communications abilities."

Wi-LANs Ultima3, VIP and Libra product series include an all-inclusive 2-year parts and labour warranty. As well, customers who deploy Wi-LANs Libra product line are protected by Wi-LANs CONTINUITY PROGRAM. The core of the CONTINUITY PROGRAM is Wi-LANs commitment that any current LIBRA Customer Premise Equipment (CPE) will operate side by side, in the same network, the same cell and even the same sector with future WiMAX Certified (1) CPEs. The CONTINUITY PROGRAM will minimize network and revenue disruption and protect customers investment in current technology when networks are transitioned to WiMAX Certified equipment. The CONTINUITY PROGRAM offers Wi-LAN customers a solid migration path to Wi-LANs WiMAX certified systems, which are expected to be available in the first half of 2005.
