Blair Wilson To Visit Canadian Troops In Afghanistan
Blair Wilson To Visit Canadian Forces Serving in Afghanistan. Communications Director Christopher Bennett says "This is no surprise. Blair is the kind of guy who stays involved in his constituency, and believes in supporting our troops." Bennett says Wilson will be gone for over a week, and plans to meet with troops and officials, to better understand the geo-political climate of the region. "Anyone who knows Blair, isn't surprised. He loves his country...." Christopher Bennett reported.
West Vancouver, BC (PRWEB) November 13, 2004 -- Federal Liberal Nominee Blair Wilson is taking his close election call seriously. On Monday, Wilson will head to Kabul with a small group of Vancouver businessmen to visit our troops, and to see first hand the role of the Canadian military in Afghanistan.
In the last federal election, many considered West Vancouver The safest seat in Canada" for John Reynolds, CPC MP. Many writers and journalists were forced to eat their hats, as Blair Wilson did the unexpected, and won the majority of the vote in West Vancouver, and many polling stations across the riding. At one point, CBC declared Blair Wilson the winner, only to receive late night notice John Reynolds would survive, by less than 1,000 votes. Pundits and politicos alike suggested his campaign could have been the greatest upset in Western Canada.
Wilson is passionate about remaining an unofficial voice of opposition" in the riding, and representing an unprecedented number of Liberal voters across the riding. Wilson is heading to Afghanistan to deliver gifts and warm wishes to our troops who are serving in Kabul, and further his own understanding of the issues that surround the region.
Im thrilled to be going, I cant wait to see our troops". Wilson said, excited about the trip.
During the last election, an overwhelming majority of constituents asked me to be their voice in Ottawa, and I that is something I take very seriously. In the end, John Reynolds squeaked through, but I cant let those constituents voices be marginalized by such a close call." Wilson insists.
While John Reynolds sits in parliament, shouting and furthering the Conservative agenda on Monday morning, Blair Wilson will be flying on a CC-130 Hercules as it makes its tactical landing to an undisclosed location. His unfinished campaign continues. He plans to spend a week in Afghanistan visiting the troops in a trip put together by the Canadian Forces. From November 15th until the 27th, Wilson will find himself in a geo-political climate, very different from the beautiful sunshine coast. Wilson hopes to deliver any mail or messages from local British Columbians who have family serving in Kabul. BC Lions footballs, and Vancouver Canucks hockey pucks will find their way into Wilsons suitcase, as early Christmas gifts for our troops. After that he returns to his newly formed Riding Executive Association for business as usual" as he calls it.
I dont have time to slow down, or worry about what Reynolds is doing, or not doing." Too many candidates pack it in after an election, and those who supported them are left without a voice. Thats not going to happen in my riding!"
I have the utmost respect and admiration for our Canadian troops, and Im excited to announce this visit on Remembrance Day. This visit is about sending warm wishes and a big thank-you from all the people in my constituency."
