SecureScore, the software division of Secure Pointe Inc., announced today the release of S.W.A.T.® Pro. This release is the first security software solution targeted to secure or "harden" the Windows operating system at the CORE, using advanced security guidelines established by trusted sources including the NSA, SANS Institute, Center for Internet Security, Microsoft, and NIST.
SecureScore is proud to announce this release, honoring our commitment to the continuing delivery of advanced, easy-to-use security software solutions tailored for the consumer and end-user environment. This initial release of S.W.A.T.® Pro is the first of several security solutions SecureScore will be releasing to the public in the near future. Consumers will quickly benefit from the "hardened" configuration implemented on their PC with S.W.A.T.® Pro. S.W.A.T.® is the security solution consumers need to fight the battle against hackers, phishers, and spammers.
S.W.A.T.® Pro delivers an easy-to-use solution designed for consumers and small business owners alike. With minimal technical aptitude or resources, users can now deploy and maintain security profiles and policies easily on their own. The unique scoring technology identifies "non-compliant" and "compliant" settings on user's PCs. S.W.A.T.® Pro's security analysis feature produces a risk score ranging from 0 to 10 (10 is optimum), alerting the user of the risk of potential attack due to current computer configuration. A simple-to-use remediation (or security lockdown) wizard allows users to automatically fix or repair their current computer settings in order to raise their security risk rating to a safer score, thus providing "defense in depth". Some of the current features include:
ÂScoring is based upon 5 categories, the risk associated with each category ranges from low risk to critical
ÂAn aggregate risk score ranging from low to critical based upon a numerical value from 0 to 10 (zero indicating a significant threat, and 10 indicating the optimal level of security)
ÂDetailed reporting on "compliant" and "non-compliant" settings
ÂValidates different applications running on the PC, such as anti-virus and personal firewall products (similar to XP SP2's Security Center, but backported to all supported operating systems, and implemented via a non-public API which is NOT configurable via WMI, therefore preventing malware from distorting or disrupting our product detection routines)
ÂAlerts the user of potentially harmful programs such as Peer-to-Peer and IRC Chat programs
ÂProprietary software update (patch) analysis (a major consideration in the scoring process)
ÂUser and account policies are validated and compared to industry recommended polices and best practices
ÂIdentifies many known services and insecure settings that hackers use to gain control of a user's PC
Remediation (Security Lockdown) Features:
ÂOne-click ÂSecure Me Now feature identifies all "non-compliant" settings and then prepares the PC for repair and lockdown
ÂAn easy-to-use wizard walks the user through the security lockdown process, giving the user complete control over security setting adjustments and the changes made to their PC
ÂÂSecure Me Now runs the security lockdown (remediation) process -- which takes less than a minute or so
ÂThe user is sent to the Microsoft software update site to initiate download of all necessary software updates
SecureScore supports and advocates the installation of Microsoft's Windows XP Service Pack 2 (SP2) for the consumer environment. The security features in Windows XP SP2 provide the greatest level of protection for consumers running a desktop operating system to date.
ÂS.W.A.T.® Pro is delivered on an annual subscription basis, allowing for our customers to provide feedback, request new features in real-time directly to our developers, and will provide our users with the many enhancements to S.W.A.T.®, which are currently in development. Upcoming product enhancements include important security enhancements to Internet Explorer, a fully customizable API (Application Programming Interface), military-grade security lockdown capabilities, integration with the upcoming release of Windows Update Services, and the implementation of important security changes to the operating system which will not be available from Microsoft until the release of Longhorn," according to Kerry Steele - Chief Technology Officer and Co-Founder of SecureScore. Mr. Steele is a Microsoft MVP in Security, and holds industry certifications including CISSP, MCSE, and GCWN, is actively involved in the information security community and community projects, and leads SecureScore's software development initiatives.
ÂSecurity is on the minds of everyone today. Hot topics include identity theft, spamming, spyware, and phishing, says Greg W. Duke, CEO and Co-Founder of SecureScore. He adds, antivirus and firewall solutions do not provide adequate security for the end-user. If a hacker wants to gain access to your PC, a firewall will not necessarily stop them. Thousands of people are still attacked each and every day while using antivirus and firewall solutions. S.W.A.T.® provides protection from the inside out with its advanced security policy implementation, by shutting down virtually all paths hackers commonly use to gain access to your PC.Â
