Frisco, TX (PRWEB) November 20, 2004 -- The Cancer Monument and the National Champion Texas Tornado Hockey Team are teaming up again for the 2nd Annual Teddy Bear Toss to benefit Children's Medical Center of Dallas. The Teddy Bear Toss is Friday, November 26th at the Dr. Pepper StarCenter in Frisco, Texas at 7:30 p.m. when the Tornado take on the Santa Fe Roadrunners.
The teddy bears will be distributed by Tornado players to children fighting cancer at Childrens Medical Center in Dallas on December 7. The Cancer Monuments founder, Michelle Miller, and fundraising director, Sabra King, will also be on hand for the event.
"We are proud to make this event possible again. As a cancer survivor, I know from experience the difficult time these children and their families face," says Miller. Jenny Orndorff, Texas Tornado Director of Community Relations, explains the teams involvement.
As stated in our mission, we are dedicated to enhancing the quality of life in the community," says Orndorff. We feel that this program is an opportunity for the Tornado to spread holiday spirit to the children who have unfortunately been given the difficult task of fighting cancer. Our visit last year was a rewarding experience; the memories we have will last a lifetime.
Last years event brought in over 500 bears for the young cancer patients.
Cristy Ecton, Outreach Manager of the Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders at Children's Medical Center Dallas, says that the center diagnosed over 200 kids with cancer last year. We treat more than 50 each day in the clinic. The Texas Tornado visit is a highlight for the families when they are facing chemotherapy over the holidays."
Miller echoes the sentiment.
A teddy bear and a smile can make all the difference in the world when a sense of normalcy, kindness, and hope are needed."
