Level 10 Martial Arts Teaches Goal Setting Course For Studdents

Level 10 Martial Arts teaches students how to set and achieve goals using the black belt as an example.

(PRWEB) November 20, 2004 -- James Theros, owner of Level 10 Martial Arts in Indianapolis, is big on setting and achieving goals. One look at what he has accomplished in his own life is proof of that. Theros first stepped on the mat as a martial arts student at the age of 9 back in 1978. After his first class he knew what he wanted to do with his life. Every step he made was a step in that direction. He officially opened his professional school in the summer of 1995 with a modest 12 students. In just under 10 years James has managed to become one of the city's most prominent martial arts school owners with an active student count of 200 and growing every week. He went from a tiny 800 square foot location to his current 4500 square foot 2-classroom school.

"We are planning another move in the next 16 months because we are growing at a rapid rate," Theros says.

"Now that I have accomplished many of my life's goals I want to teach others how to do what I did, and that to me is the ultimate goal."

During his classes this week students were treated to a 90-minute lecture on the process of setting and achieving goals. He began by having everyone remove their belts and then proceeded to hand each of his students a brand new black belt with their name and the target date of their black belt test written on it in gold ink.

"We want the students to first conceive the idea of becoming a black belt and by having them wear the black belt for a full month. We then teach them how to achieve the goal."

The goal setting process that Mr. Theros laid out for the students was a very simple but very direct one. He taught the students at his Tae Kwon Do, Karate, Kung Fu school about the importance of putting a date with the goal to help keep them on track when things get rough in life. He also went on to say that as soon as you set a goal everything in your life will begin to work against you.

"That's called Murphy's Law, Theros says. Anything that can go wrong WILL go wrong."

The students learned that earning a black belt in the martial arts is equivalent to graduating highschool. After highschool some students go on to college- those are the students who go on to become 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th degree black belts and learn to master the art.

He also made is abundantly clear that without making a committment nothing happens. "A student MUST make the committment to become a black belt or it is highly unlikely that it will happen. Things get hectic, homework piles up, sechedules get full, people take vacations, etc... and all these things can easily steer you away from your goal if you haven't made a definite committment."

When the lecture was over it was clear to everyone in attendance that the parents of the children got as much or more out of the lecture than the students themselves.
