It's Just Lunch! Singles: Lose the Debate and your Date By Talking Politics on a First Date?

Its Just Lunch! survey reveals that most singles are hesitant to discuss politics on a date-unless youre a Denver single male

Denver, CO (PRWEB) November 24, 2004 -- According to a recent national study of 3,968 singles conducted by Its Just Lunch!, the countrys most established professional dating service, 64% of men and 60% of women in the U.S. wont talk politics until after the third date. But Denver men are surprisingly different: 53% of Denver men claim that they will discuss politics on a first date.

After three years of analyzing the dating habits of Denver singles, owner Leslie Lessig says, On a first date, showing immediate support for either Kerry or Bush can be the quickest way to end the date. We advise clients not to bring up politics. If the other person brings up the upcoming election, then our advice is to simply be honest. Before getting into the discussion, ask your date what side of the fence he or she is on so you are prepared."

Why are Denver males more likely to talk politics on a first date than the general population? Denver has a great singles population-highly educated, professional and active," says Lessig. Our sense is that Denver men may be more willing to talk politics because they are educated about the issues, and perhaps because Denver has a more independent and outgoing attitude than other cities."

I typically stay away from discussing politics on the first few dates," says Tommy Romano, an It's Just Lunch! client. But if it does come up, and we are both open minded adults, it can be an easy topic to discuss. If our political views are different, I listen to her opinions without any judgments and let the conversation naturally move to a different topic. Arguing about political beliefs could be an instant dating disaster, so its best to talk about something else all together, at least until she knows you better."
