Incucomm Announces Another Breakthrough Optical Patent
Incucomm today announced that the US Patent and Trademark Office has granted a utility patent for a new type of optical backplane for use in communications equipment chassis.
Dallas, TX (PRWEB) November 30, 2004 -- The backplane addresses an important drawback to the emergence of high-speed networking. Enterprise IT organizations are finding that rack mounted equipment with fiber interconnects are much more expensive to maintain than older, Ethernet equipment. The new higher speed standards (GigE at 10 and 100 GHz) use optical interconnects between blades and boxes in equipment chassis.
Optical connections dont fully support blind mating" as older copper connections do, and so called hot swaps" are impossible for some types of equipment. The new backplane makes it practical to provide optical interconnections with the same ease as older gear. Steve Roemerman, CEO of Incucomm indicated that a portfolio company of Incucomm would be the first choice for licensing the patent.
