Next Generation Wireless Access Concentrator for Broadband Wireless Access Unveiled

HauteSpot Networks, a developer of Broadband Wireless Access (BWA) devices and software, unveils the next generation of wireless router for Wireless Service Providers. The new 4 radio, network processor based HR-IXP42501 supports complex and secure routing in support of local service delivery.

San Jose, CA (PRWEB) December 1, 2004 -- HauteSpot Networks unveiled their next generation Wireless Access Concentrator at Wi-Fi Planet today. The new HR-IXP42501 routing device is based on the Intel XScale IXP425 network processor combined with 4 802.11a/b/g long range radio modules, and will enable wireless service providers to design exciting new services and applications with minimal cost and simple provisioning.

The HR-IXP42501 is a ruggedized 8"x6"x3", steel enclosed, highly secure routing device, designed with harsh environments and security applications in mind. Female N Type antenna connectors allow the attachment of a variety of antenna options based on application requirements, and the watertight NP type CAT5 cable connection allows for wired network connectivity and Power Over Ethernet and simple installation.

Using a state of the art network processor in a small form factor board which features four Atheros 802.11a/b/g multi band radios, dual 10/100 Base-TX Ethernet channels, a RS232 port for management and debug,128Mbytes SDRAM, Power over Ethernet (PoE), watchdog timer and a voltage/temperature monitor, the HR-IXP42501 is intended for use in applications where performance, reliability and manageability are critical.

We have built a rock solid wireless router that will allow Wireless Service Providers (WISPs) to design networks that perform flawlessly at a cost that will be very compelling," said Bob Ehlers, Founder of HauteSpot Networks. This product is what the market needs right now. We are starting with 802.11 based products targeted at broadband wireless access (local loop), but are ready to move to 802.16 when that silicon becomes available. Our software architecture is flexible enough to accommodate change quickly. We offer a solution today and for the future," continued Ehlers.

The HR-IXP42501 routing software stack uses an embedded Linux operating system which boots from on-board Flash memory and has a CompactFlash module for working space, allowing for large route tables, filters, etc to be implemented for the least possible cost.

The HR-IXP42501 software supports a full range of encryption, filtering, firewalling, routing, bridging, WAN protocol encapsulation, RF management, and administration features, and supports the full range of 802.11 standards today and 802.16 tomorrow.

We envision Wireless Service Providers using our Access Concentrator as the distribution hub of a broadband wireless access network for local service delivery," said Tim Harvey, Director of Engineering at HauteSpot Networks. The HR-IXP42501 works well with our complete line of existing customer premise equipment, as well as industry standard equipment from a range of equipment manufacturers," continued Harvey. In the near future we will be offering cost optimized versions of customer premise equipment based on this same design. This will allow us to significantly reduce the cost of providing secure wireless networking in the local loop."

The Intel IXP network processors have been designed for the most demanding networking applications and combine a high-performance Intel XScale core with additional network processing engines (NPEs) to achieve wire-speed packet processing performance. Additionally, the IXP processors include integrated hardware acceleration of popular cryptography algorithms (SHA-1, MD5, DES, 3DES, AES) for wireless and VPN applications that require a high level of security.

Pricing and general availability information on the HR-IXP42501 will be announced shortly.

The HR-IXP42501 may be viewed at the Gateworks Corporation booth at the Wi-Fi Planet show.
