Change Mastery in Action: Davis Wick Consulting Partners with MarketUP to Expand Their Reach and Scope

San Mateo change-management firm seeks outside assistance to increase their market visibility and promote their offerings. Bringing the Consulting Enterprise Workshop to broader audience.

Davis Wick Consulting, Inc., (DWC) a successful organizational and executive development consultancy, has selected MarketUP as its marketing and communication partner. DWC provides organizational assessment, change management coaching, M&A re-engineering, and training services to client organizations. The decision to market their services more extensively represents a disciplined approach to their own growth.

Reaching Out, Staying Focused

DWC has prospered for more than 13 years as a small consultancy. In recent years, their stand-alone training program pioneered by founder Dr. Tish Davis-Wick, The Consulting Enterprise Workshop, has been extremely successful. The workshops have served more than 650 participants to date, training them to think and work as consultants within their own organizations, and winning praise from clients such as Kaiser Permanente, The Gap, and Bank of America.

That success presents a new challenge for DWC: How can they bring their highly personal style of “change mastery” consulting to a wider audience? The answer, according to Dr. Davis-Wick, “is not to reduce our program into a shrink-wrapped package.” Instead, she envisions a process of organic growth. Success will come partly from training other consultants and firms in DWC’s very personalized, hands-on methods, and partly from a communication partnership to reach potential new clients.

“We saw an opportunity to serve a larger and broader range of clients. To get there, it made sense to hire a marketing firm. But just as it’s essential to maintain a deep personal understanding of our clients as we grow, it was very important to me that our marketing partner truly understand us, working along side of us as part of our business.”

Marketing from the Inside Out

They hired Berkeley-based MarketUP to meet those expectations. In just one year of operation, the firm has developed a reputation for forging integral relationships with their clients, often serving as all or part of the client marketing organization.

Donna Lehman, founder and principal consultant explains why they were chosen by DWC: “Many of our clients are smaller, emerging companies, who have big plans but limited resources. We try to respect both. And the only way to truly understand their needs is to get in deep, listen closely, and act as if we are internal partners.” According to Davis-Wick, it was that quality of understanding that resonated with DWC’s own approach.

In addition, MarketUP brings significant experience in the field of human capital management. Client relationships in this area include 360-degree assessment provider 3D Group, workforce management software firm NEOGOV, and online screening and assessment guru Rocket-Hire.
