Alpern, a 26 year old vivacious, curvaceous woman, created the Beauty Plus Power website to help women like her find more fashionable clothing options in their size. “There is a lack of information available on the internet and in magazines about trendy plus size clothing options”, says Lisa, who spent hundreds of hours scouring the web to put together this directory.

The result is a comprehensive guide to clothing for fuller figures in more than 15 categories, ranging from business casual to goth, bridal gowns to costumes, swimwear to footwear and everything in between.

In addition to the easy to use shopping directory, the site also has “The Scoop”, information on sales and discounts that is updated daily. There is also “Featured Store”, which spotlights a different plus size retail store each week, and “Q&A with Lisafashionista”, where readers can write in style questions for Lisa Alpern, who is uniquely qualified to answer them. In addition to being the founder of the site and an expert in plus size fashion, Lisa works in the beauty industry in New York City as a freelance makeup artist and hairstylist.

Perhaps the most groundbreaking feature of the website is the monthly editorials. “We are giving photographers the opportunity to shoot really sexy, cutting edge photos of plus size models, which they rarely get to do.” The first month’s story, “Made to Measure” was photographed by LA based plus-friendly photographer Leslie Delano. It features plus size models posed seductively in white tank tops with their modeling stats (measurements) handwritten on them, as a statement that sexiness comes in a variety of sizes.

Beauty Plus Power is excited to bring style and trend information to plus size consumers. But the website also knows what a benefit it will be to plus size designers. “Many of these companies have very limited ways to advertise, and now we are giving them the exposure they really need.
